Went in with a life long friend who is black and ACTUALLY warned me he’d be profiled. He was moving out of town the next day and we were both tired from work. I kinda scoffed at his concern. We went in and sat at the bar and ordered some apps. Rib tips and crab cakes. They were fair. A bartender by the name of Kevin had to be flagged down just to order a drink while he doted on others. We reluctantly ordered dinner as Kevin HONESTLY made us feel like we were a bother. He never cleared our plates while he quickly cleared everybody else’s. Literally a clear and clean bar except for in front of us for 20-25 minutes. He was also an eye roller when we asked for another drink and BLATANTLY took his time. It was so obvious that I finally said Kevin, why haven’t you cleared our plates or gotten us another drink? He said, as god as my witness, “because I thought you should save your forks.” Here’s the deal… we grew up in Mequon and are educated. We work hard and understand privilege and also the struggles of racism etc. My jaw was on the ground watching the way Kevin performed. I actually told Kevin he was bad for the business and he said “are you serious?” We cancelled our dinner, left Kevin a good tip out of respect for ourselves and left shaking our heads. I’ve shared many experiences with my friend and we laugh about the stereotypes of all people but Kevin took the cake. While some of you may say it was a self fulfilling prophecy before we went in, this was something else. Been hanging with this guy for decades and this was a first and the worst. *UPDATE 12/29/22. Based on the reply, it is insinuated that we were drinking too fast or too much? Again and not surprised... pretty offensive. It was our first drinks of the night and we each had a few in an hour or so. Just came in to get a bite and watch the game. Oh well. It's usually the top down right? I'm glad at least you spoke to Kevin who, regardless of his motives, is bad for...
Read moreWent there because it was close to our area and my friend and I were seated after 20 mins(which is fine). Constantly had to flag down our waitress who would clearly be checking on other tables. We were sat from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with no food. Only water, that we had to flag another server down for, and then had a separate waiter give us our appetizers that we ordered over 30 minutes before. After waiting over an hour for our food we decided to ask for our ticket so that we could leave since we needed to be somewhere by 7:30. So we flag down our waitress again. She gives us our ticket but refuses to let us pay for just our appetizers and that our food was coming out. Mind you we only ordered a salad and a pasta dish. So we reluctantly wait for them to actually make our food then pack it to give to us. Once given to us, I realized she gave us the wrong food and I've opened the container and picked around it to see if I liked it or if i wanted to go through the trouble of telling her that I didn't want a lasagna and that I ordered salad. She closes the container and takes the lasagna back and I'm sure gives it to another customer and gives me a thrown together salad and pasta with no utensils. We leave with no apology or appeasements. Can't believe to be treated this way and I saw an earlier comment about staff profiling by race and I wouldn't put it past this establishment based on the service received....
Read moreThis was our second time here. We had first come the week they opened. We were not impressed then. Decided to give it a try again and still not impressed. As we live very close, it would have been great to love this place.
For an appetizer, we had the hummus and veggies. It must have sat under the heat in the back because the hummus was dry and warm and the veggies were soft and warm and the pita was burned on one side.
I had the Vietnamese sandwich. It had decent flavor but literally no meat on it. 2 super thin slices of ham and at most 1 ounce of pork. All I tasted was bread. And my baked potato was lukewarm and hard. I had asked for sour cream and chives and got a container with about 10 pieces of itty bitty chives. Maybe there was a chive shortage tonight?
The server was nice and brought me a hot potato and some extra pork for the sandwich but by then, the sandwich was cold and the pork she brought was dry.
My husband had the pulled pork sandwich and he liked that.
But for a price of $45 for 2 sandwiches, 2 draft beers, and the hummus, there are way better restaurants in Milwaukee. Heck the neighborhood bar Aliotas was...
