Second time trying this place. So many good reviews as being best donuts in town... but I guess my family's taste buds differ? They weren't bad, but I didn't think they were great either time we went. Blueberry barely had a faint hint of blueberry flavor. Old fashioned didn't taste like a traditional old fashioned. It was really dense and dry (?hard to describe as they are supposed to be kind of dense, but this was different) and just unusual for an old fashioned donut. The filled long john had about a teaspoon of custard. Literally, only one bite in the entire donut did I get any filling. And I take smaller bites, unlike my husband who could probably eat a long john in 4 bites. So when I say there was about a teaspoon of filing, I'm not exaggerating. Chocolate on another donut was excellent. Fudgy and yummy. So, if you like chocolate frosting, I get why you'd love this place. My son seemed to enjoy eating the pink frosting off the donut he selected but didn't eat the bottom half of the donut. The ladies inside were very nice and the place was clean. Like I said, most people seem to love this place, so I wouldn't say don't try it, but just know that there's a chance you might be like my family and not be...
Read moreI am a misplaced Texan and ALWAYS crave a good kolache in the morning to go with my coffee! Seriously the only reason I wanted to try The Donut Palace was for their kolaches as there are so many other Donut shops in town to choose from! Let me tell you they are worth trying! I hate the location... area is very sketchy but every time I visit it's always a very pleasant and fast experience! all staff is friendly! Like I said I am from Texas and I was just so THRILLED to see a donut shop here in Wichita to finally sell what I thought mimicked a Texas style Kolache! They have jalepeno and cheese and the regular sausage and cheese. Brought back so many great memories of childhood days at Shipleys Donut (a Texan thing-if you know you know!) the kolaches are totally comparable to Shipleys ! Seriously thank you so much for selling Texas style Kolaches! Makes my Texas heart so happy 😊 also, if you haven't tried their Cronut what the heck are you waiting for?!? I like to zap mine up a few seconds in the microwave. OMG to die for !!! Go give them a try you won't...
Read moreMy Pappie loves kolaches. They have them here. There is another franchise in Augusta we go to. I was glad to find this one in Wichita. The donuts and kolaches are super delicious! They are baked fresh daily. They open at 5am and stay open until 5pm. The owner is a super nice lady. She has been doing everything for over 20 years. She is very sweet and friendly. Treats all of her patrons with dignity and respect. I will say that this particular area of Broadway attracts some very unusual characters. Do not be surprised by the bars on the glass and doors. I feel like they are probably necessary. You are safe going to this place. Just keep in mind the part of town you are in. Remember to keep your car doors locked after exiting the vehicle and until you...
