We needed a first birthday cake for our daughter’s birthday back in October and they were the only ones that’s didn’t have a 3+week waiting list for a custom cake. We arrived and looked at all the cakes and desserts in their cases as waited to be helped with ordering a cake. When we were ordering the cake I said that her party was a cow theme so I was trying to go for a white cake with chocolate spots in it ( like how a cow looks) and I said we wanted the cake iced in chocolate icing with black spots. The guy helping us was having a hard time picturing what I was trying to tell him and what we ended up with was a chocolate sheet cake on bottom and a white sheet cake on top. You could barely taste the chocolate in the chocolate cake, the white cake tasted like lemon, the only part they got right was the chocolate icing on the whole thing and the black spots. The icing was pretty much just whipped butter spread all over the cake because you seriously could taste a ton of butter and barely any sweet. Then after we had ordered and PAID I got a phone call saying they had undercharged me and I must come back in and pay $25 extra for the black cow spots….which is absolutely ridiculous that any business would make a customer pay twice for THEIR mistake. I can tell you they are only in to for the $$$ and I won’t be ordering anymore cakes from them. So it was pretty much a waste of $65 for a cake that didn’t even taste...
Read moreI don’t usually take the time to write reviews, especially because I believe in supporting our small businesses. However, I feel compelled to share my experience. My mom has been ordering their rum cakes for my birthday for as long as I can remember. Each March, when I visit North Carolina for my birthday, she orders this cake as part of our tradition.
This year, though, the cake tasted noticeably different. We couldn’t finish our slices because it lacked the typical moist, rum-infused texture and rich icing that we love. It felt dry, and the frosting was not as creamy as before. When I called to express my concerns, the manager informed me that they no longer make that style of rum cake and only offer it during the holidays.
I asked why they wouldn’t consider allowing special orders for loyal customers who cherish this cake. She mentioned that the baker unfortunately can't produce that specific sponge cake anymore, which led me to wonder if they might be outsourcing their cakes.
This news makes me really sad, as this cake is my absolute favorite, and I’m heartbroken to think I can’t order it when I come to town. While they did issue a refund, I find it puzzling that a bakery wouldn’t reconsider a beloved recipe. I sincerely hope the owners read this and decide to bring it back on the menu year-round. Thank you from a devoted fan of the old...

Though I love Apple Annie's, and would have given 5 stars if it were just my past experiences, I'm not sure when I'll be going back after my last experience.
They were very clearly training a new hire, which is so reasonable, however they were not training her at all, just telling her to do things which clearly doesn't work. Train your employees with a trainer. Leaving her to herself when she's clearly not getting it leaves an insanely bad taste in my mouth, and I can tell you from what I saw she was having a really awful time too.
On top of this I saw food safety violations like dropping the ice scoop for the coffees and then putting it back on the counter. If you'll do this kind of blatant food safety hazard in front of my face, what do you do to my food behind my back?
Also as other guests have complained about: no prices listed in person. If you guys can put together a website you guys and get the prices on there, you can for sure print out prices for your items in store.
I'd rather just go to a Harris Teeter at this point or something. Its getting...
