This truly was an experience. Came knowing nothing about the establishment, other than it being a coffee shop near where we get our cars serviced. Matt was working the register and we enjoyed a conversation about the menu options, and he even shared some interesting facts about the misconceptions between roast levels and caffeine content. We gradually realized everyone working behind the counter had some type of intellectual developmental disability, but that put no damper on the quality of service we received. Our drinks came out in a timely manner, and we were satisfied enough to go back and try a third option. The workers filled the building with loving energy, and we enjoyed their conversations about garlic and what their wrestling names would be. The staff was nice enough to provide some paper and markers for my son to draw on. After my son finished his drawing he asked if he could give it to Mike behind the counter. Mike was absolutely fantastic and kindly took the drawing and complemented my son on his masterpiece. While I can’t say I had the best coffee of my life, I can easily say the love, warmth, and energy present was enough to make me want to come back many times over. The coffee was decent. Honestly not the best coffee in the world, but you don't visit Bitty & Beau's because you're expecting world-class coffee.

You visit for the staff.

Bitty & Beau's is staffed exclusively (with the exception of a few managers) with young people with Downs syndrome. The operation of the shop aids these employees. For example, when you place your order, you are given a playing card. Your order is placed in a plastic sleeve with the same card taped to it. When your order is ready, one of the staff will call out your card.

If your goal is to get world-class coffee, you might go elsewhere. But if you want to support Downs syndrome research, support a business geared for their success, and literally have the most heartwarming experience ever, go here. These people are so genuine, and they express themselves so effortlessly, without all of the pretence and façades and the trappings of current human interactions in today's society.
