I always try to support local businesses, but this visit was pretty disappointing, and there are many better options around Wilmington.
Pros: -The rice in the burrito was perfectly cooked -You get a lot of food for your money. -Good, efficient carry-out practices during COVID times.
Cons: Unfortunately, they were significant. Most importantly, the “lime grilled steak” had both the look and consistency of being boiled. No char, very tough, very grey, and largely flavorless. See picture. I really tried to use the most flattering light. -While the burrito itself was easily a pound, there was scarcely 4 oz of meat. I ordered it with corn salsa, and it was much better described as a corn burrito. My wife also ordered a burrito, and hers was the same. -Flavors overall were relatively bland. I asked for medium-hot salsa and couldn’t pick it out throughout the burrito. Luckily since it was takeout, I was able to supplement with my own hot sauce. Again, same with my wife’s burrito despite her ordering different toppings.
In summary, the business is well run, but the food itself was very disappointing, and I order carry-out for the food alone. I wouldn’t recommend this place over a Qdoba or Chipotle, which is difficult to say since I am not a fan of chains.
To owner response: Trolley square, as shown in location info. Burritos were one steak, one mushroom. Fillings largely similar: pepperjack, sour cream, corn salsa, cilantro, cured onions, salsa verde (described by the person taking the order as medium-hot). One had kale. One had pinto beans, the other black beans. Corn was the dominant flavor. Not specifying day because I'm not writing this to get service...
Read moreThis is concerning the Trolley Square restaurant. I frequent El Diablos often and always had great service and quesadillas that were cooked to a slightly crispy perfection that usually takes around 7-10 minutes in the press. Tonight however, I was in and out in under 3 minutes and my quesadilla was not crispy and the contents are falling out when I pick it up to eat it. I called and left a complaint on the voicemail and immediately received a call back. The caller never stated her name asked me what the issue was and after I told her the issue she asked “but was the cheese melted?” I told her “barely” and her response was “so the cheese was melted. I then said,“Where is your manager?” “Because you can’t be the manager speaking like this”. She then stated the manager was nearby as if the call was being supervised. I then let her know I did not appreciate her playing on my phone and that I would be calling back to speak to a manager tomorrow (which I am). I also let her know I would be leaving a bad review (which I am). Seems like the closing front end shift on 2/2/2024 needs to be retrained on customer service and...
Read moreNote - the food here is SUPERB! I am putting down the review because for some idiotic justification the owners of this establishment feel it is ok to have a 'dummy' phone number listing that goes to a voicemail in their corporate office instead of the respective stores. Fail on them for not understanding that customers sometimes need dietary clarifications BEFORE getting to a restaurant.
Vegetarian review.
The burritos and the bowls are both incredibly tasty! Let's get that basic out of the way. Even though the food is pricey - especially if you add guacamole ($3!!) the portions - especially of the bowls are HUGE. You will easily hit $13 per bowl.
I preferred the mushroom base in my veggie burritos with a light sprinkle of habanero pickle (not spicy to signature fortunately) with a healthy dose of diced fresh jalapeno (base mark of a proper mexican establishment in my book).
The charred tomato and red pepper dressing was my delight here which I drizzled all over my burrito. It has a nice flavor and kick to it.
The staff that work here are super friendly and will...
