This place is absolutely wonderful. It was a Monday night and we were trying to find a place open to eat. Many places are close on Mondays allegedly due to staff shortages. Anyway, this place is open and we thought we would give it a try. We made a reservation but when we arrived it was not at all crowded. The person that greeted us had a nice smile and cheerfully welcomed us to the restaurant. She asked if we had ever been to the restaurant and we answered that we had not and she quickly stated that you will not be disappointed. She then said to look over the menus and that she would be right back with water. Maybe a minute later she returned, said her name was Acacia and that she would be serving us tonight. As she poured the water, she asked if we would like to order any drinks. We gave her our drink order and then asked if we would like any appetizers. We said we were still looking at the menu and she replied no problem and I will be right back. She quickly returned with our drinks and offered to answer any questions that we may have. When we did not have any, she took our order. The food came out looking amazing. It looking so good that I forgot to take pictures of the dinners. Our orders consisted of a French Dip, chicken scampi, short rib, and a diver sea scallops. The were all plated perfectly and tasted wonderful. Acacia checked on several times to see if there was anything we needed. She was extremely attentive but not annoying. The food could not have been prepared any better and we all loved our meals. Definitely give this...
Read moreAbsolutely mind boggling this place has such good ratings. The rating and location were why we chose the restaurant. The atmosphere was nice but that was nearly it for the pros. We went in a Sunday afternoon and it was not busy. There were maybe 5 tables including ours and at least 3 servers, maybe 4 plus a bartender and hostess. After being sat, it took an eternity for our server to come take our order, she never even took our drink order and I was wanting to order a beer. I went ahead and ordered a beer while were ordering our food and she forgot to put that in until remembering 10 minutes later. After getting our food, our server didn’t come back to check on us until we had to flag her down once nearly done. The pretzel appetizer was decent but the two salads and my crab cake were absolutely disgusting and I was not able to finish. To elaborate, I had a Cesar salad that was bland and lacked any flavor. The $12 crab cake I ordered to top my salad didn’t use meat from the legs and had a chemical order I typically associate with low quality crab from a grocery store. I’m so disappointed with my choice in this place and baffled at how poorly the wait staff treated us despite seeming to have a decent number of people working and the restaurant being nearly empty. I would advise people considering to look elsewhere, there are better options in...
Read moreWe visit Wilmington on business often, and like to try various restaurants in the waterfront district while there. We were pleasantly surprised by Michael’s. Due to its location directly on the waterfront, we expected high prices and perhaps indifferent dishes. But the food was excellent and the prices reasonable.
I had a phenomenally delicious French dip shaved steak sandwich, served on a fresh, crusty hero roll. The steak was tender, thinly cut, free of gristle and perfectly grilled. It was generously topped with grilled onions and a sort of tasty red pepper sauce. One of the best steak sandwiches I’ve ever had (and yes, I’ve been to Philly many times!). The dipping gravy was absolutely delicious, not too thin and not gooey or thick. A generous portion of crispy seasoned fries accompanied the sandwich. My wife chose a burger with Muenster cheese and declared it very good indeed. She’s not usually a fan of hamburgers but decided to switch it up. It was grilled perfectly to her order, and the quality of the beef excellent.
The waitstaff was efficient, attentive yet not intrusive. It is a very pleasant, airy room with comfy wooden booths as well as tables. We saw several tables filled with groups of coworkers, and another with a large family. All seemed to be enjoying themselves very much.
We were very glad we discovered Michael’s, and we hope to...
