So, My gf told me we were going to Whole Truth and I had no idea what that was to be honest. When I heard it was a church restaurant and an old one, I was all for the trip. I support a church based restaurant, and we were greeted by the owner almost at the time of walking through the door.
He walked up to us and we told him it was our first visit there and he offered free banana pudding for us both to go with our meals. Did great with small talk with us and other customers in line.
The food, I had three forms of chicken that I honestly had a hard time choosing which to get. So went with a fried chicken breast, baked chicken that was a quarter and then had rice with the gravy that was on the 3rd chicken. It looked like gravy from a hamburger steak. I had collards as well with hush puppies. My gf also had potatoes salad and we got chicken salad as well.
From my favorite to my least. The gravy and rice was the first bite. I knew we were in for something good with that one bite alone. The collards after adding some vinegar literally stole the show. It was as fresh of collards that I've ever had. I stated and didn't stop on the collards till they were gone. Baked Chicken was awesome. Falling off the bone and you wanted to do it in the juices that came with it.
Potatoe salad was cold, the salad cubes were crisp and I actually thought there was onions in it because of how crisp they were when you bit into it. It looked great as well.
My fried chicken breast was good. Juicy and fried perfectly. Just got outshown with the things mentioned above. With that said, my gf had a leg and thigh of fried chicken that were small and honestly a little overcooked. Compared to the breast there was a big difference.
Banana pudding was incredible. It wasn't too sweet, but the vanilla wafers fell apart with the spoon with ease. Had such a smooth taste. This food can only be made with years of talent and caring about what you give your customers!
The atmosphere was great. It's what a small town restaurant that has been there for decades should be. There were white and black patrons there and EVERYONE was friendly and we all knew the food was good. The customers honestly helped the experience because of them being friendly and religious people. They talked up the restaurant as good if not better than the owner did. Surrounded by good people and a great owner.
I did restatement for 26 years and having me or my managers out front talking to the people is the answer. This owner did that very thing and knew it as well. We WILL be back and anyone that comes here looking fir guys country food with a great atmosphere I am sure will experience much of what we experienced. Country food dinner right.

Read moreThis is my second time eating here 2 years in between and the food is still consistent, quality, and so DELICIOUS! 🙏 Taste and See that the Lord is Good, Psalms 34:8... Y'all this is some Good Ole Country Cooking! I literally ate everything on my plate. This was my 1st time ever eating here and I'm sooo glad I stumbled upon it! Seriously, haven't had a good plate of soul food in quite some time and this hit every spot!
1st plate was 🍗 fried chicken that was absolutely delicious, homemade potato salad like the kind your grandma would make, and fresh turnip greens served with fresh hush puppies on the side.
The 2nd meal was hamburger steak smothered in fresh gravy with onions and it came with rice 🍚, Candied yams on the side, fresh 🌽 corn, and hush pups.
The staff was very polite, helpful, and friendly. 👉🏼 The Prices were Very Reasonable and they can easily charge a couple more dollars per plate if the quality stays Consistent, because it's seriously good cooking.
Long story short... Eat...
Read moreWe searched for a good food restaurant in Wilson as we planned to visit the Wilson Whirligig and we found The Whole Truth Lunchroom with good reviews and the sign $10-20 so we bookmarked and went for lunch today. The restaurant with minimum decoration but gave a very homey atmosphere, lovely people working there from the 2 ladies at the counter to pick the food (who were very patient with me as I didn’t really know what to order), to the second counter with a very nice young man to chose your drink and the helpful and lovely lady cashier. I chose Chicken with mashed potatoes sauce, and two sides were rice and macaroni and cheese, my husband got the pork chop, with macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes, they came with fried bread and both were very tasty. The price for our lunch including 2 drinks: $22 and the credit card machine didn’t have tip added on. How amazing! We surely will visit again whenever we go to...
