I had never been to Mission BBQ before, but I overheard someone talking about how great the food is, so decided to get something to go while running errands. I wish I would have visited sooner!
This is one of those places where you order your food at the front then they call your name when it's ready. They were fairly busy during my visit, but there were ample tables inside which all appeared to be clean.
I had the brisket sandwich and baked beans which were both fabulous! The beans have bits of brisket mixed with this wonderful sauce. The brisket on the sandwich was perfectly cooked, but my favorite part was that while the bun was soft, it was still hearty enough to withstand the ride home and the addition of sauce without getting soggy. (It's a texture thing... I really really really don't like soggy bread).
The service was exceptional. I'd never been there before so it took me a few minutes to review the menu and I had questions, but the staff were knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable taking my time. I didn't feel rushed at all. There are several different sauce choices on the menu, which all have vivid descriptions, but I was still unsure which to choose. The gentleman who took my order suggested that the Texas Twang goes really well with the brisket. I ended up taking 3 different types of sauce home... All were good, but for me, the Texas Twang really did go best with the brisket.
Lastly, they have a reusable cup available for purchase. It seemed to be more than a collector type cup and there were several designs available, so asked about the purpose. The gentleman explained that if I chose to purchase the reusable cup (more expensive @ $3.99) in lieu of the regular disposable cup, then $2 of that purchase goes to the charity designated by the cup chosen. The 4 different cups described to me benefitted first responders, veterans, USO, or wreaths across America. Also, if you bring the cup back, refills are only $0.99. I...
Read moreI chose Mission BBQ after checking out some glowing reviews online, and the food on their website looked great, especially the menu photos.
So, I placed an order and headed over to pick it up. I was greeted cordially by the gentleman at the register, then made my way to the pickup area, where another gentleman was extremely polite and even paid me a nice compliment on my outfit.
He took the time to double-check my order, opening each plate to confirm everything was correct. He also asked if I wanted BBQ sauce and gave me one of each variety...which was a lot! Not every sauce was quite my tempo, but 2 of them stood out as particularly delicious: the really spicy one (forgot the name, but it’s supposed to be their spiciest one), and the baby sauce.
I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with sides of potato salad, mac and cheese, and coleslaw. My colleagues had the salmon and the brisket sandwich (moist). We all agreed that the meats were phenomenal. The mac and cheese was superb and definitely something to write home about! The potato salad was pretty good; if you enjoy a nicely peppered version that’s not heavy on the sauce, you’ll like this one. The coleslaw wasn’t the best, but it was certainly passable.
As someone who’s not usually into barbecue or BBQ sauce, I have to say this place really hit the spot. You can’t go wrong with the meats here, and that mac and cheese is worth the trip alone.
I’ll definitely be coming...

Our first visit: my wife and I ordered pulled pork sandwiches, and our daughter ordered a pulled chicken slider.
The pulled pork sandwiches came in two styles: Traditional, and NC style. One would think that the NC style comes with a vinegar based sauce. One would be wrong. The NC style just has coleslaw added to the generous portion of pork. I thought that the amount of chicken on the slider was small, but my 8 year old daughter thought it was just right. The kids slider came with fries. The fries were delicious.
Sauces for your meals are on the table. They have 7 varieties in the table, including my favorite NC style sauce.
We'll definitely go back again to try their other menu items. Including: brisket, ribs, and daily & seasonal specials. The night we were there they offered smoked salmon, and prime rib. A modest list of sides are also available. They serve Pepsi fountain drinks, but also have a selection of bottled soft drinks. For adults they have a selection of...
