Four of us recently dined at this wonderful, family run, spot in Winooski. The restaurant specializes in Nepalese and Indian cuisine and our meal was outstanding. We started with some chili pork momos and then proceeded to try the butter naan, chicken chow mein (Nepalese style), lamb kebabs, tandoori chicken and vegetable biryani. The momos came with a delicious, and somewhat spicy, chili sauce that was outstanding. Spicy but not too spicy. The chow mein noodles were perfectly cooked and expertly seasoned and the vegetable biryani was a nice complement to the dishes … also well spiced, fluffy and very tasty. The tandoori chicken was plentiful, tender and full of flavour. The lamb kebabs were slightly under-seasoned for my taste and bit dense in texture … still very good but not outstanding. The owner was a very friendly and helpful person and he was clearly proud of the food he was preparing and recommending. The room itself is small and very unassuming … but you don’t go to Mountain Valley for the decor. You go for the food! Overall this was an outstanding experience and Mountain Valley deserves to be supported by the...
Read moreFavorite Winooski take-out, hands down! I can only afford to pick up food about once a month, and this is what I almost always want. Freshly made, filling, nourishing comfort food. Often shockingly fast (it's so delightful to have takeout that tastes like it literally just was made minutes ago because it was). Perfect whether I've had a (very good or very bad) long day. Personal favorite is the paneer curry.
This is my family's go-to place if we order together for a celebratory dinner. Excellent place to try a few things and share. Nobody has to cook but everyone can find things they love on the table, even if they had no say in making the order. Between six adults and two kids (all vegetarian) we can cover a table with options and everyone ends up happy and full with nobody foraging in the kitchen later.
One of the kiddos requested it for their birthday dinner last year, so that speaks for itself! I have a local business up the street and send clients here all the time.
I'll leave you with this: In a perfect world, I'd drink their mango lassi every single day for the...
Read moreFamily run restaurant with a couple tables and lots of people coming by for takeout orders. This spot has had many immigrant owned restaurants with mostly traditional foods.
We started with samosas and mango lassi. The samosa was perfectly flaky, packed full of of potatoes and pea filling, and not greasy. The accompanying sweet and spicy sauces were nice along with the complimentary papadam.
Our main dishes were coconut curry chicken with rice and lamb briyani. The coconut curry chicken was not spicy and perfect for our daughter to eat with the freshly made buttered naan. We enjoyed the spicy lamb briyani, which was the right level to enjoy the flavor of the rice and meat. We had this along with garlic naan. Very filling meal for a reasonable price. Friendly staff who got the food out hot and and in a...
