I have spent over $100 patronizing this restaurant because I liked the food. A few weeks ago I ordered shrimp low mien and an extra shrimp roll. When my shrimp low mien arrived the bag was soaking wet with the grease from the shrimp roll. I used 4 sheet of paper towels to remove the grease and it was still not edible. I contacted the restaurant and spoke to a man name Brian. I told him that I had already contacted DoorDash but I just wanted to let him know as a customer that the rolls were very greasy. I specifically said , “I am not calling for a refund because I already spoke to DoorDash but the shrimp rolls were extremely greasy and that is unlike the experience I had before.” He responded, “I am so sorry that happened, I will check with the cook to see what happened. Thank you for letting me know, the next time you order call me first and I will put an extra shrimp roll in the bag”. So today that is what I did; however, Brian had a change of heart today. He said, “ I know what I said be for but DoorDash already gave you a credit and you are a scammer that is trying to scam me.” After going back and forth with him trying to explain that I am only calling because he told me to, which he acknowledged, he said that he was going to call the police on me. Thanks to IPhone, I recorded the conversation (which notifies the caller they are being recorded) but he yelled and said if I ever called again or came by the police would be called. So this ladies and gentlemen is how they treat their customers. They are not the only Chinese restaurant in Winston Salem, please go to one that values and respect their customers. Looks like Brian is the owner, do not trust anything he says and if he offers to rectify an order please get it in writing or record it. A shrimp rolll should never be...
Read moreI have to say, this was a profoundly disappointing meal. There were only two highlights in the whole experience: the flavor and crispy texture of the chicken with lo mein and the pork egg roll.
The dish I got was Mongolian beef. To start with, it was nothing but onions and a few dried (inedible) chilis. As you can see from my picture, it is mostly white and green onions. There were some bamboo shoots in there, but not that many, and they had been cooked too long, as they were as soft as the onions, if not softer. The seasoning on the dish was nothing like I experienced before, and that is, unfortunately, not a compliment. It tasted of Asian BBQ sauce and ketchup? The flavor was also so light that the incredible amount of onions dominated the dish.
I also got fried rice with my dish, and it was just yellow rice with no vegetables or protein. Another disappointment.
The spring rolls were also highly disappointing. They came with the “combo” of the two dishes we got, so I understand they are free, but if you are going to serve them, please ensure that they have filling and are an addition and not a detraction from the dish. The spring rolls were filled with next to nothing, mostly the fried dough used to wrap them.
My partner got Lo Mein and General Tso’s chicken, and the flavor and crispiness of the chicken were incredible. However, her Lo Mein was kinda tough and definitely under seasoned, as it had no flavor, and what a shame, as the sauce from the chicken was delicious.
Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. I always save my leftover Chinese food for another day, but these went straight into the trash after we consumed the only delicious items, the General Tso’s chicken and the one...
Read more3yrs ago this was my post re:East China-Great food, competitive prices and good customer service
Unfortunately, I can’t say my most recent experience was as pleasant. While the phone portion of my call in order, the cleanliness of the restaurant, food hot & ready upon arrival to pick up are all pluses the menu I referred to for pricing was inaccurate & for many years we’ve “switched out” the white rice for the more flavorful veggie fried rice w/o extra charge (we’re talking about average order $50 & up) this time we were charged $3.50 per order for the change, this wasn’t mentioned when ordering the food (“ok we can change the white rice to veggie fried rice but, now that’s $3.50 per plate to change). The taste also wasn’t what we were used to in the past (for $70+ on an order I expect to enjoy the flavor). Other than the seasoning that makes the Gen Tso Chicken spicy-the chicken was very hard (several pieces inedible) & dry. The rice, the one we paid extra to get what we wanted, was extremely dry, it was difficult to get more than a few grains on our utensils due to the consistency of the rice & there was no flavor. Our egg rolls were fried so hard they had to be sliced into small bites before serving, the “stuffing “ in the egg roll was flavorful & of the quality we’d been used to getting from EC… I know we live in a different time now but, we shouldn’t settle for less than satisfactory quality or quantity especially when we’re absorbing higher cost on...
