El Torero Mexicano — Restaurant in Winston-Salem

Went there about 2:00 on 7/31/2017

I ordered food okay, however there were no happy moments or pleasurable thing. They did not carry green sauce, which is fine. I ordered a root beer, but was not informed that they were bottled (my oversight probably not reading the menu but usually a good place would make sure that is okay and they are aware). My meal was average - if that. After finishing the root beer while eating the meal that had nothing unique about it, I waited for the waiter to stop by to see if I needed anything. There was nothing for a long while. After 15 minutes, I put my fork down and looked at him. He promptly walked by. He returned in a while on his own time, first talking to another table, and then asked how everything was. I asked for a water, which again took a long while. This was when only 4 tables were filled at 2-3 pm.

Suddenly my bill appeared without a word, just put on the table while on roller skates. I think during the entire visit maybe two words were spoken. No one there talked, not even the hostess really. I had one of my three enchiladas left on my plate. Was not asked about a box, or a refill of any sort (perhaps offering another root beer to maximize profits?). They promptly took the bill and returned for payment. I had to ask for a box, which seemed like some kind of new idea. Usually I am asked. That is what good companies do.

In the end, it was not a good experience, and just moving into Rural Hall, I will be finding another place to eat. I usually only eat authentic Mexican food, so I will drive to Kernersville or down to Clemmons.

Listen, usually I do not write reviews- let alone bad ones but here we go. This use to be me and my wife’s favorite restaurant, but over the last 6 months quality has go a down drastically- and service. Last time me and my wife went here, they sat a table with 6 kids and 5 adults next to us, who were so incredibly loud that we couldn’t hear over our own conversation and everyone around us- left early Including the family behind us who were so frustrated they left all their food- no one asked them to adjust their behavior- and ultimately- our table and 3 others left because of it. The salsa is now very watery, tastes bland, the food consistently is extremely greasy and I understand grease but I’m meaning like heavy heavy with grease- to the point that this is the second time my wife and I have been extremely sick after eating there and need the whole day after to recover- (I do not think it’s food poisoning, more of a reaction to the of the grease) the waiters and waitresses seemed very stressed out, which I understand being in the service industry is hard, but when you have to wait 15 minutes to get someone’s attention it gets frustrating. I really wanted this to be a 1 off or a bad week- there was a time where me and my wife were in here 2-3 times a month because of the combined service, food and price- but unfortunately the last 6 months have just shown it’s been a pattern, I would say go check it out if you’re interested as I’m sure not all experiences are bad- but this...

Now I'm not normally one to complain, but goodness, this place was AWFUL. Now, to be fair, my expectations were very high going in. This is the first date me and my wife have been on in over year, and looking at other reviews, this place seemed like it would be incredible. It took 17 minutes before anyone came to help us, the place was not busy in the slightest. The first waiter we had was probably the rudest person I've ever encountered, never checked on us, never brought us drinks etc. The second waiter was fantastic, he even apologized for the first waiter. Then the food came out almost 30 minutes later, room temp at best. The food was horribly bland and dripping in grease. We were given giant cuts of meat, which is incredible, but no way to cut them up, and no waiter checking in on us so we couldn't ask for a knife. We pretty much just ate like barbarians .I will say the daiquiris were the only saving grace. I don't know if we just got unlucky but this place, after our visit does not seem like it deserves the praise. I doubt we will ever try this...
