Read moreOnce again, disparity in reviews was part of what drew me here, particularly (and curiously) the different opinions on the gravy. So let’s start there. I think the gravy controversy is a matter of semantics—people have different ideas about what the term “gravy” connotes. Many assume it is sausage based. The simple fact here is that Grandma Ruby’s gravy is a basic milk gravy that has a pleasant, if plain, taste. You can, upon request, make it sausage gravy or chipped beef gravy (or as they call it “chip beef” 😂). So I think the gravy is fine as long as you know what you’re getting. Eggs over easy were perfect, grits were flavorful, bologna was tender and tasty, the coffee was good, but the fried tenderloin lacked seasoning. Once again we come to what is rapidly emerging as the biggest mystery to me on my breakfast adventures: the biscuit—taste was just ok, but once again at yet another breakfast establishment, the biscuit texture was spongy and unappealing. The flavorless syrup was very poor quality as well. The bacon was tough and leathery and the sausage links were shriveled tubes of sausage-flavored grease; obviously reheated. The grits tasted like field corn and they were not creamy in the least. And wow the biscuit—once again, reheated. When I bit into it, it turned gummy and doughy in my mouth and had very little flavor. The coffee was average at best. Two things that I did like were the low price and friendly service, but unfortunately these things aren’t enough to entice a...
