The Umi Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Lounge Experience (Dine-in Edition). So on this day, I went to Umi for lunch. Before going, I looked online at their lunch menu and thought I would try them out. Once entering, I was greeted and seated at a booth. It was a little chilly inside, but the waitress relocated me to a warmer spot. I then ordered their Hibachi vegetables that come with soup, house salad, and fried rice. While waiting for my meal, I went to the restroom to wash my hands, and it did appear clean during my visit. Once back at the table, the waitress brought my soup and salad out. The clear mushroom soup had a good taste, and the ginger salad dressing was delicious. Next, the waitress brought my meal, and I enjoyed the cooked vegetables and rice. My side of ginger sauce and hot sauce was an excellent addition to my meal and enhanced the flavors. Would I go back to Umi? I would venture back to Umi for lunch. I enjoyed the meal and service I received. I felt like I received a comparable amount of food for what I paid. I'm not a sushi fan, but I saw a wide range of choices on their menu. So with that said, I am looking forward to my next visit.

Umi is my new favorite hibachi place! I have been excited about this place for months and yet we almost didn't go after reading all of the bad reviews. Those people are WRONG and being way too hard on a newly opened restaurant. My boyfriend and I went for the first time about 2 weeks ago on a Thursday and we had no wait to get a seat at a hibachi table. The food was delicious! We did a combination dinner of chicken and steak and added noodles. I love that they put egg in their fried rice. Yum-yum and ginger sauce were great. And our chef, Opie, was one of the best hibachi chefs I've ever had! He really made our experience great. After having such a wonderful first experience we made reservations and request Opie to be our chef again. We had a party of 9 last night and had no wait. Food was impeccable and Opie made my birthday dinner very fun. The pricing is identical to other hibachi places in town (Arigato, Tokyo). I HIGHLY recommend this place- give it a chance, don't be persuaded by people's bad reviews this place is great!!!

INTRO: Winston-Salem has its own hibachi restaurant, similar to Benihana’s or Kanki. During dinner, the chefs station the customers around a large griddle and cook everyone's dinners on it while also performing insane culinary stunts, including making a flaming onion volcano, tossing shrimp into their hats, and balancing an egg on their spatula as they bring the spatula around their bodies. Please note that these performances are only during dinner hours, which are reflected by the stark increase in entree prices compared to the lunch menu. ENTREE 1: Chicken Teriyaki ($10) - Since I came here during lunch hours, I was not provided a show unfortunately. Some pieces of chicken were dry, and other pieces of chicken were tender. The teriyaki sauce was pleasantly sweet, contrary to the overwhelming sweetness and saltiness of the teriyaki sauce from Panda Express. I do wish the portions were a big larger. 7/10 WORTH IT? YES but only if you go during dinner hours for the show! (Overall 7/10)

WORST SERVICE AND FOOD EVER!! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!

1-10 1 sucks 10 great

Presentation 4 no show whatsoever Cleanliness 7 glass in the napkin Quality of food 4 rubbery chicken Price 1 So expensive for the food u get Service 2 had to ask several times for refills read below

So needless to say it was horrendous for our party of 11 guests Thursday evening to say the least And we even had RESERVATIONS!!!

Now I will explain those scores Got there they couldn't take care of the seating ok so we said we would move no biggie we moved into a room with just two hibachi grill tables And it was forever to get the cooks in there to cook we got there at 6:50p we finally got food at 8:03p meantime we snacked on a couple sushi rolls well when Dorothy opens her napkin to get the rolled silver ware out there was a piece of glass that went in her hand😔 so then manager said they are new napkins and smirked. Well then we finally get our cooks so here we go brand new place they opened up Tuesday we are going to see a good show right? Nope nothing fire that's all anyway he pours out the rice put soy sauce on it that's fine but then without asking he loaded up a poured all kinds of teriyaki sauce on all the rice didn't ask around the table just put it on and we asked him if that was teriyaki sauce he said yes we said we don't want that sauce on it but that's fine don't waste the rice then he turned right around and put teriyaki sauce on ALL the shrimp smh😔😔😔😔 so then Mike lost it!! And I did also because found out it swells me. So then he threw all the shrimp away and got new shrimp and made a smart remark in a hateful voice IS BUTTER OK!!! We all just sat there well we all ordered water to drink because Katelyn and Spencer has these awesome dōTERRA oils and if you want to know more about them hit Katelyn up!! So we put them in our water it's amazing and the server said IS ALL OF YOU ALL drinking water. I said yeah is that ok you don't work on commission do you? She said I have to up sell so the total will be bigger. Then tried to force Mike to order an alcohol drink😔😔😔😔 needless to say our glasses went 10 min without a refill😔😔😔😔😔 so after all that issues they had and we complained the manager gave everyone a 25% discount which was good but it didn't compensate for the terrible night of drama with the server and cook. And we finally got to leave at 9:20p made two trips in one The same type of food is way better and cheaper st the other Resturant's in Winston Kanpai, Tokyo, Komodo, and Arigotos Don't waste your time or money on this new place!!!! And never forget about Carriage House

And here locally you can't beat...

I love hibachi style restaurants and was very excited to try this new restaurant out only to be highly disappointed. I checked into the restaurant with a friend yesterday at about 7:45-8p.m. The hostess asked if we wanted private or hibachi dining, we requested hibachi. She said it would take a few minutes and that we were more than welcome to sit at the bar in the meantime, so we approach the bar and the female bartender with dark hair and a high bun totally ignores us, she was talking to another coworker at the time. About 5 minutes later, someone else comes behind the bar and hands us menus and takes our drink order. We waited at the bar for 15-20 minutes just to get sat and they weren't even busy. I finally just asked the hostess how much longer it would be, she asked a manager and we were sat immediately after. The server was extremely nice and did an overall great job. Male, kind of short, glasses, and braces, if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, we ordered the fried calamari and chef's pick sushi as an appetizer. The calamari was bland and the sushi had wasabi in between the raw fish and rice, which I didn't understand because sushi is already served with plenty of wasabi on the side. The chef was something, his name was Sam. He did an outstanding job with tricks and entertainment, but sang loud and obnoxiously the whole time while cooking. He was very unprofessional honestly. He sang "In love with the Coco" and said to one of the guest, "I know you're in love with the coco." Like who does that?? He then cracked an egg on the grill and shaped it into a penis and said, "I know she likes that." I thought he was pretty disgusting. I ordered the filet mignon and tuna and my friend ordered filet, lobster, and shrimp. The steak was alright. The shrimp and lobster were under cooked and chewy. Rice was good, just a pretty small portion, vegetables were bland. It was just pricey and overall a bad experience. I...

First visit today and it might be the last. I was hoping for a new Japanese steakhouse experience in Winston to replace the others that are tired and worn out. I'd actually go to those before I'd come here again.

The service was fine, but I'm not sure if I'm honey, baby, darling, or dear. I'm having an identity crisis. It's just not professional to call your customers those names in a dining establishment that's anything more than a hash joint.

The food was just okay. It didn't have a lot of seasoning. The tables didn't have salt and pepper provided (and should). We decided to get the Money Bag appetizer, which is nothing more than fancy crab rangoons with too much wonton wrapper at the top - very messy. The flavor was okay though. For the entrƩe, I had the hibachi steak with rice and vegetables at a menu price of $14. For that "lunch price" I received about 1 cup of rice, 5 bites of vegetables, and 7 average size pieces of steak (yes, I counted them). For at least a third less in price, I could have gone to another hibachi establishment not far away and had twice the amount of food and it would have tasted exactly the same, if not better.

My co-worker had the lunch box with chicken and that amounted to nothing more than some fried chicken strips with some sauce, a green salad, and a California roll. Neither of us were impressed. He said it was kind of flavorless and unexciting.

They have some work to do here if they're going to survive in this market. It wasn't overly crowded for lunch (maybe because they're new and people don't know they're open yet) and the tile walls and floors made it extremely loud. I can't imagine what it would be like when the place is full with large parties and all of the teppanyaki tables are going full blast. That was not a very good design choice. Let's hope they can pull it together, but after today I...
