Big Tom's Diner — Restaurant in Winter Haven

So first I want to start out by saying that my family has been coming to Big Tom's restaurant since I was very young starting with my mother bring my sister and I as young children and now I bring my wife and my own child and we normally love Tom's restaurant. Today however, I don't know if they have a new cook, if they have new owners or what but everything about this experience was awful. To start with the atmosphere, was loud and there were obnoxious people next to us and we had at another table grown men next to us blowing their nose and people all around us complaining. Then my wife was recommended to chicken topped with mushroom gravy so she of course ordered it. However when it came it was not even comparable to what the server stated. There was not one iota of salt or even pepper on that chicken it had been boiled there was white what they call scum from the top of the water as it's boiling on the chicken topped with hard mushrooms and a little bit of gravy served with ice cold macaroni and cheese cottage cheese which was pretty decent. I myself got a full rack of ribs which mine do I've had before and absolutely adore but this time they were Brown no barbecue sauce on them that they were cooked in just some cool barbecue sauce for it on top again served with ice cold macaroni and cheese and some brown hard broccoli. The service here is normally wonderful today however it was not we had to beg for a drink refills had to ask two or three times to be brought condiments and this is just not the norm of Tom's restaurant. Just really ruined it for us I hope that my wife will be willing to come back again, and like I said we have been here many many times but I really believe that this experience get it for us I cannot say for sure whether we will be back or not now the server and manager did take care of my wifes chicken meal by taking it off the bill and when my wife mentioned to her that the chicken noodle soup she had was very good she did go ahead and give her a cup to go of the soup which my wife was grateful as she was still very hungry. We have been coming here since the initial opening, but in the last 3 visits our food was terrible and our servers were the worst. My family patronizes this place about 3 times a month. About a month ago I order cornbeef hash and eggs for breakfast. The cornbeef hash was fried very hard and eggs were fried, I ordered over easy. I just assumed that the cook was not the usually cook I ate the breakfast, paid and left. A week later, I patronize this establishment again. This time I order a chopped steak breakfast. The chopped steak was very under cooked. Home fries were fried so hard that when attempted to eat it they came off the plate as a whole unit. I ask for fresh dice on the home fries they gave me cooked onions. The waitress that took my order is not the waitress who brought the food to the table. I address the conditions of my food., she stated “I am not your waitress I just bring your food to you and walk away. About five minute some lady came to the table and asked me if everything was alright. She stated she was the manager. I addressed the conditions of my food. She took my plate and stated she would fix it. Now mind my other family also had issue with there food. Orders were brought to us in pieces. My chopped steak and eggs were cold. My home fries came out 4 minutes later under cooked and greasy. I address this matter with manager. She done nothing about it. I ever left a msg o the back of the receipt for the owner. Last week my order the catfish dinner to go after eating half the portion she discovered a finger nail in her coleslaw. When called back to address this matter they was no answer. This is THE place to go for friendly service, fair prices and GREAT food! The owner, when his wife isn't around, came by our table and others to make sure we were satisfied. I appreciate that! My sister had catfish and fries. She wanted more catfish so I would say she loved it. My brother had a hamburger with grilled onions and fries. He's difficult to please because he likes his fries extra crispy and his onions grilled not in a skillet. He loved it all. Said it was "perfect!" That says a lot. He rarely says that about restaurant food. My son had fish and chips with Cole slaw. He also wanted more fish. He ate the other things so quickly I have to wonder if he tasted it. lol. Obviously he loved the food too. I had a cheeseburger all the way with cheddar cheese. The menu says it comes with American cheese but you can request another kind. The owners are very accommodating. My meal also included Cole slaw and macaroni and cheese. I'm not a fries eater. The macaroni and cheese was out of this world. I could have made a meal out of it alone. My burger was delicious. The burgers are 1/2 pound so VERY filling. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant for a great breakfast, lunch or dinner. I don't think there's a chance you could be disappointed.
