I'm giving this to Stars only because it wasn't a total disaster. The beer and cider were the only good things about this place. I ordered the barbecue burger and it was disappointing to say the least. Dry and couldn't find the barbecue sauce. The meat was hard and dry. The bun was very hard and dry almost like they toasted it and it had been sitting out for too long. My burger was so bad that my fiance took half of it and gave me half of his Reuben. His sandwich was decent but nothing out of this world and the chips were pretty standard. The upgrade to the garlic herb fries was sad to say the least. They looked and tasted exactly like regular french fries except they were even more dry if you can imagine and had some green stuff sprinkled on top. There was nothing garlic about them. We thought maybe this place would redeem itself with the desert but the flourless cake with the coffee ice cream was probably worse than the dinner. How do you mess up dessert? The ice cream on top was dry, hard and tasted like it was burnt. The description says it comes topped with caramel which it did not and it also says it has coconut flakes which were more like stale coconut strings that resembled those long weird sprinkles you put on top of cupcakes. I guess what makes this whole situation even worse is that it took us an hour and 50 minutes from the time we sat until the time we walked out. It took 20 minutes from the time we sat until we placed a drink order in which we had to call a server over to us and asked if he could take our order. He did take our drink order but our female server took another at least five minutes before she greeted us. so being in this establishment for 30 minutes before the meal order is placed, then it took another 45 minutes for us to get our food. We never saw her during the meal to ask if we needed anything or how our food was. Once we were done eating we sat there for about 10 or 15 minutes waiting for her to let her know that we needed our check. at first we thought maybe it was because the place was seemingly busy but by the time we got our food and were done eating there was only a few tables remaining but our waitress was too busy talking to the two guys at the table behind us and eating food off of their plate. hopefully her friends pay the bills for her because apparently she isn't worried about her customers or her tips. Overall this place is pretty cool as far as the environment goes. We sat along the outside bar with a view of the river. Other than the drinks and the view this place was a waste of time and money. I am disappointed in the review from Instagram on the Cascade Loop page that...

On my recent trip to the Methow Valley, I made a point to visit Old Schoolhouse Brewery in Winthrop, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Nestled along the banks of the Chewuch River, this brewery feels like a hidden gem where time slows down, and the beer flows just as freely as the river it overlooks.

I kicked off my tasting with the Epiphany Pale Ale, a medium-bodied pale ale with just the right balance of bitterness, a slight caramel malt flavor, and a citrusy hop aroma that made it incredibly refreshing after a day out in the valley. The atmosphere of the brewery, with its sprawling deck and laid-back vibe, was just as impressive as the beer. It's easy to see why Nate, Jake, and Troy, the new owners and outdoor enthusiasts, fell in love with this place. Their passion for the valley and the brewery is evident in every detail, from the quality of the beer to the warm, inviting atmosphere they've nurtured.

As an adventurer at heart, I couldn't resist diving into their seasonal offerings, and the Imperial Stout caught my eye. This beer, with its deep, dark complexity, layers of caramel, chocolate, and roasted malts, was a bold choice but perfectly balanced. It's clear why it's a gold medal winner.

But it wasn't just the beer that made my visit memorable. It was the feeling of community and connection to nature that Old Schoolhouse Brewery embodies. It's a place that celebrates the outdoor lifestyle, from fly fishing to skiing, and everything in between. Sitting on that deck, sipping on a Ruud Awakening IPA as the river flowed by, I felt a deep sense of relaxation and contentment.

For anyone visiting the Methow Valley, I highly recommend stopping by Old Schoolhouse Brewery. Whether you're an IPA aficionado, a stout enthusiast, or somewhere in between, there's something here for you. And who knows, you might just find yourself slowing down to river time, even if just for...

After seeing all of the good reviews, I was honestly shocked with how terrible of an experience we had here. To start, the wait was really long so they gave us a place in line and a wait time (totally understandable)...but then sat someone else in our place after we had already been waiting an hour. Then our server seemed really busy, but also just didn't seem to know what she was doing, because we didn't see her for a while and when we did she would bring us one thing at a time and left the water pitcher on our table without enough water for us all in it, came back a few minutes later apologizing and said she should have poured our waters, and then took another 10 minutes or so to bring more water. We then waited over an hour for our two kids food, then an extra half hour at least for the rest of the food to come. Our server was nowhere to be found most of that time, and when we did see her it felt like she was almost avoiding us because it was nearly impossible to get her attention. When our food did come, two of the people's food in the group was COLD, like fries were rock solid and cold and burgers weren't even slightly warm-- which made it so no one at the table even wanted to eat them despite how hungry we were. The other two adults food was hot and they both said it was good. Also, they only brought us half of the appetizers that we ordered, and they came 10-15 minutes AFTER our food... They offered to make the other appetizer, but at that point we had already been waiting way longer than we wanted and didn't know how long that would take. Both my husband and I have worked as servers before and I completely understand that restaurants can get really busy and backed up, but we could not figure out enough excuses as to why the service could possibly have been this bad. This place was just a huge...

The last time I ate at this place, they had Poutine Fries with Beecher's cheese curds that were the best I have ever had! So I went up again with family so they could try them and unfortunately, they are no longer on the menu. We went around 3:30 on a Friday and it was surprisingly pretty busy. We decided to just get appetizers to tide us over for a bit. We bought both of their fry baskets, their pretzel, and Chipolte barbeque wings. We enjoyed every dish! The pretzel with the cheese sauce was spot on, and both fries were great. Though the general concensus with the group was that the regular fries had a better flavor than the sweet potato fries. The wings were the least impressive of all the appetizers, but more filling. Later that evening we decided to try out the mexican place next door, and I wish we would have just came back here. The food was better here and they had live music since it was a Friday night. It was a packed house, where the place we went only had a few tables taken. I enjoy this place so much! I can't wait to come back when the weather improves so we can sit on the back patio!

We started by ordering water, which was served at room temperature, not cold, no ice. I've only seen this in Europe, but never in the USA. My wife ordered a Reuben ($18) and fries were $2.50 more. So, a Reuben, customarily accompanied with fries for $13 (look it up at your favorite restaurant) was $20.50. I ordered the fish and chips ($18), but substituted a side salad for the "chips". The fish was badly overcooked, dry, and if you look at how thin the pieces were, given that the fillets were breaded, there was very little fish there. It tasted as bad as it looked, like burned cardboard. When I got the bill, I saw that I had been charged 50¢ for the salad dressing. WHAT!? I've never been charged for salad dressing. They also charged me for the fish AND the chips AND the salad. The server corrected the error. The final insult, after the bill was straightened out, the payment machine "allowed me" a selection of tips ranging from 18% to 30%. Ridiculous! This dining disaster, with 8.5% tax and an 18% tip was $55.70. No charge for the warm water. I'd never go back there, nor recommend this place.
