DO NOT BOOK THE QUEEN CABIN. We have stayed here several times in other rooms/cabins and they were nice. The queen one (#10, Bailey) was terrible. Overall, the inside is just plain tired, with unpainted spackling on the walls, pieces of plywood screwed in place instead of cabinetry, dirty carpet, broken kitchen sink, dilapidated bathroom cabinet that doesn't close, bathroom fan that sounds like a car without a muffler and a broken hot tub. Calling the front desk (because no one is ever actually on site) is pointless. We called about the hot tub because that was the primary reason we booked the cabin. We were told it won't work because the weather is cold, but they'd reach out to maintenance and call us back. You can guess how that turned out. No call back. Checked with the cabin next door and their hot tub was a balmy 102F. So, clearly it's not a weather issue. Tried again several hours later and were told the hot tub model is too old and won't work in this cold weather. Um, so then why advertise that it has a hot tub?? We asked to check out early since they couldn't provide what was advertised. And that's when the person on the phone really turned on her sparkling charm. Some people really should not work in customer service... or in a planet where they need to interact with another human. It's too bad. We've stayed at the Chewuch many times, but this will be the last. There are other options in Winthrop where the staff are courteous and the rooms are...
Read moreChecked into our "romantic" king cabin, looking forward to a few quiet nights, only to be soon thereafter surrounded by screaming kids. Between us and our car, behind our bedroom, and ten feet from the patio where we were hoping to spend some quality quiet time. It's a shame, because we've been coming here for five years now and absolutely loved the other cabin we stayed in. Private, quiet, tranquil with deer, turkeys, birds and squirrels in abundance. I originally wrote this with one star due to the family reunion that was happening between my cabin and vehicle, making it impossible for me to do anything but hide, as I suffer from social anxiety and came for the seclusion. Edited after the other nights spent were absolutely great. The breakfast is always tasty, the staff are all friendly, and the king cabin is luxurious. There's a very nice hot tub, grill, and full kitchen with anything one may need. The living room has a gas fireplace, tv and lots of room for relaxation. Next year I'll be more specific about which cabin I want to stay in, and I'm sure it will be amazing. We stayed in cabin 16 this trip, and anyone staying there should know that the cabin makes a LOT of noise. Sounds like there's people on the roof walking around. All day and all night. Similar to someone forcefully...
Read moreThe staff here is very nice, but after hours… well, it's a complete joke. We stayed in room #4 in the basement and it was an absolute disaster. The lights didn’t turn on properly. There was literally feces on the bedspread (which they did change immediately, thankfully). Trying to use the bathroom? Good luck. The toilets barely flush, making it impossible to pee comfortably, and if you need to poop, you’re taking your life in your hands.
The room itself was filthy—dust and grime under the bed, stains on the chairs, ceiling, lampshade, and walls. The dresser was missing a knob and had a screw sticking out right at my son’s height. Outlet covers were missing. There was no air conditioning, and the assortment of random soaps and lotions was chaotic. Popcorn, tissues, and hair ties were all found under the bed.
Breakfast was good and the staff were apologetic, but getting any type of compensation or even a call returned after hours was impossible despite calling multiple numbers.
The exterior of the building is beautiful, and the main office and breakfast area look great, but do not, I repeat, do not stay in basement room #4. If we hadn’t had a 6-hour drive ahead and if someone had actually returned our call, we would have left...
