This place is a savior to the one tourist trap across the street. You may or may not know that Reds is a very common restaurant which is located right across the street, and while they seem to be very popular, it's a lot smarter to go to Sprague's Lobster which is LITERALLY right across the street (I said that twice on purpose, and yes I do know it's bad grammar deal with it ). And as soon as you take a bite of that fresh lobster, with the fresh sea salt, cold and warm butter- you know that this place will be just as good as the tourist trap across the street which has its disadvantages. When I actually take a minute to look at the prices and everything that was offered at Sprague's Lobster...this place overruns Red on every single level. This place has cheaper prices, great quality lobster, insanely fast line, less than a 4 minute wait for 3 lobster rolls, great customer service. When I look at reds I am able to realize that it's more expensive, good lobster quality, insanely long line, and a slow service. I swear this place is just as good as reds, if not better for all the reasons I have previously listed. I didn't want to take 2 hours of my day out on waiting for a single lobster, especially with the 45 people in front of us (exact number) and 6 minute per person (exact number, 6 min per person not group). Some people say it's worth the wait, but I like to have an extra hour of my life doing something like writing this review rather than spending till...

In the process of planning out our first trip to N.E. I wanted to know the best places for lobster. One of the seafood shacks I had read about was Sprague's in Wiscasset, Maine. I was definitely not disappointed. It was an absolutely beautiful fall day and the scenery from this little place on the water was tremendous. The food was excellent. Exactly how I was hoping the whole experience would be! Since it was early in the trip, I had a number of opportunities to try lobster rolls at other places. I thought all lobster rolls would taste the same. My wife and I agreed that this was the best, sweetest tasting lobster roll we had eaten. An additional benefit to the experience is that I had a chance to talk to Sprague. He was just sitting at his station processing his lobster meat and talking with me. Seemed like a down to earth kind of fellow. Should we return to Maine in the future, a trip to Sprague's will definitely be on the agenda. BTW, I did not try Red's across the street. As many had previously commented, there was a huge line of people waiting there, yet just a few at Sprague's. I can't see there being that big of a difference to prompt why people would wait so long in a line when you could pretty much walk right up and order here. Herd mentality I guess... Well, as I mentioned, the quality of the food at...

I'm back in lobster roll heaven! Hopefully this helps some of you who were like me, wanting to try Reds Eats, but torn between its line and Spragues across the street. Im a Kansas City gal on a road trip in my RV and heard about a really hyped up, lobster roll place called Reds Eats' in Wiscasset Maine. I wanted to go there and try one, but the line was wrapped around the block. However, right across the street is 'Sprague's Lobster' selling the same thing, and it has parking, and a nice dock with picnic tables looking out on the water. Theres hardly any line at Spragues either, just people sitting and eating, so I park and get to Googling because I get a little crazy when I research important things, like food. What I found out was that they both serve pretty much the exact same thing: lobster rolls with "a whole lobster and then some" on each split, buttered and toasted roll. Reds Eats has has a couple write ups by famous travel foodies, so all of the tourists flock there, and the locals go to Spragues(whose rolls are $1 cheaper than Reds). Hmmm, seems like a no brainer to me. Spragues lobster roll was LOADED with huge chunks of fresh lobster and it was out of this world! Next time I'll try Reds Eats IF the line is a...

We really wanted to like Sprague's. A grudging employee took our order. No one else was in line, on the deck nor in the parking lot! We found a nice place on the mostly empty deck with a lovely view of the river. An older man (manager? owner?) ignored us despite the place being empty (didn't I mention that already!). Grumped right by us on his way to the main shed. The food was okay; my choice of fried haddock sandwich, no bun (asked for lettuce and tomato which was okay with the kitchen), was fresh but the batter fell off at the first bite. Better without. My husband got the lobster roll and the meat was fresh and sweet. A sign by the order shed stated the sandwich contains a "whole lobster and more." Hm, sounds legit.... doesn't state what size lobster! Not even enough to share a nibble. Clam chowder was excellent! Chock full of fresh clam. Just the right amount of potatoes and a deep clammy, creamy base. I would be happy to order the chowder again! It's a choice between the big deck seating or the long lines and massive, superior lobster roll across the street. Red's wins for us.

Out of towner here in Maine, looking for a quintessential lobster roll. We strolled up to Sprague’s on a gorgeous May Day and ordered one to split, with fries, coleslaw and a blueberry soda. When my lobster roll came, I noticed the meat was fresh, overflowing and perfectly pink. I drizzled a little melted butter on top and ate my half with a fork. The toasted bread was pretty good, but lobster is the star. It is moist and has a wonderful delicate taste. I would eat one of these lobster rolls for lunch every day if I could, but you’ll need to stock up on cash first since they don’t take credit cards. (ATM on premises) What a perfect treat on vacation or any time you find yourself in Wiscasset Maine. Ps I read a review where the eater complained that the roll was only lobster and bread. I can’t disagree more, because now I understand that that is the point— any other ingredients like lettuce or tomato in this sandwich would be superfluous.

We’ll be totally honest and say that we stumbled into this gem. We had read about Red’s Eats in several Maine magazines and online lists. We read that where our spot was at Red’s in line at 2:15pm would take about 2 hours and we had plans at 3:30. We walked across the street to Sprague’s and had arguably one of our favorite lobster rolls from our whole Maine week adventure. There was a ton of claw and tail meat on the sandwich and the bread was well toasted. We were given the option of hot butter and Mayo, and we’re so glad we got to dip the pieces and sandwich in hot butter! Just lobster, butter, and bread - so yummy!!! There were so many pieces that they would fall off as we tried to grab bites. We overheard the owner telling a group of some of the local friends & fishermen they work with - so cool! And there is so much seating in front of the stand and around back of their stand closer to the water. We loved it and would come back!
