This place is a savior to the one tourist trap across the street. You may or may not know that Reds is a very common restaurant which is located right across the street, and while they seem to be very popular, it's a lot smarter to go to Sprague's Lobster which is LITERALLY right across the street (I said that twice on purpose, and yes I do know it's bad grammar deal with it ). And as soon as you take a bite of that fresh lobster, with the fresh sea salt, cold and warm butter- you know that this place will be just as good as the tourist trap across the street which has its disadvantages. When I actually take a minute to look at the prices and everything that was offered at Sprague's Lobster...this place overruns Red on every single level. This place has cheaper prices, great quality lobster, insanely fast line, less than a 4 minute wait for 3 lobster rolls, great customer service. When I look at reds I am able to realize that it's more expensive, good lobster quality, insanely long line, and a slow service. I swear this place is just as good as reds, if not better for all the reasons I have previously listed. I didn't want to take 2 hours of my day out on waiting for a single lobster, especially with the 45 people in front of us (exact number) and 6 minute per person (exact number, 6 min per person not group). Some people say it's worth the wait, but I like to have an extra hour of my life doing something like writing this review rather than spending till...
Read moreIn the process of planning out our first trip to N.E. I wanted to know the best places for lobster. One of the seafood shacks I had read about was Sprague's in Wiscasset, Maine. I was definitely not disappointed. It was an absolutely beautiful fall day and the scenery from this little place on the water was tremendous. The food was excellent. Exactly how I was hoping the whole experience would be! Since it was early in the trip, I had a number of opportunities to try lobster rolls at other places. I thought all lobster rolls would taste the same. My wife and I agreed that this was the best, sweetest tasting lobster roll we had eaten. An additional benefit to the experience is that I had a chance to talk to Sprague. He was just sitting at his station processing his lobster meat and talking with me. Seemed like a down to earth kind of fellow. Should we return to Maine in the future, a trip to Sprague's will definitely be on the agenda. BTW, I did not try Red's across the street. As many had previously commented, there was a huge line of people waiting there, yet just a few at Sprague's. I can't see there being that big of a difference to prompt why people would wait so long in a line when you could pretty much walk right up and order here. Herd mentality I guess... Well, as I mentioned, the quality of the food at...
Read moreI'm back in lobster roll heaven! Hopefully this helps some of you who were like me, wanting to try Reds Eats, but torn between its line and Spragues across the street. Im a Kansas City gal on a road trip in my RV and heard about a really hyped up, lobster roll place called Reds Eats' in Wiscasset Maine. I wanted to go there and try one, but the line was wrapped around the block. However, right across the street is 'Sprague's Lobster' selling the same thing, and it has parking, and a nice dock with picnic tables looking out on the water. Theres hardly any line at Spragues either, just people sitting and eating, so I park and get to Googling because I get a little crazy when I research important things, like food. What I found out was that they both serve pretty much the exact same thing: lobster rolls with "a whole lobster and then some" on each split, buttered and toasted roll. Reds Eats has has a couple write ups by famous travel foodies, so all of the tourists flock there, and the locals go to Spragues(whose rolls are $1 cheaper than Reds). Hmmm, seems like a no brainer to me. Spragues lobster roll was LOADED with huge chunks of fresh lobster and it was out of this world! Next time I'll try Reds Eats IF the line is a...
