I am 67 and have been going to Dominic's over 30 years. I know all the servers and the early birds I frequent enjoy monthly w a friend or two and recommended Dominic's to new customers over the years. I also frequent w my husband and son. Today we had an unusual negative experience. My close friend, Eva, and I both, well educated and retired. Our reservation was for 12:30 and we left 2:20. Claudia was our server and I am familiar w all the servers. Unexpectedly today, my dental bridge fell out of my mouth this morning, which meant I had to go to the dentist a good hour away after lunch. Under my dentist's direction, I ate lunch before seeing her. Eva and I are very close friends that confide in each other. Claudia brought our lunch quickly and we enjoyed it as well as our time together. At first, Eva asked for grated Cheese and Claudia yelled over from the other room that it was on the table w the Salt and Pepper. It was just us at first in the restaurant. Owner Frank and his table of about 6 sat a distance from us having there own good time. Another table came in, and while we all were tables spread out having all private good time, plus the pulsating music at Dominic's, which is loud and not necessary, a rude man came over and told us we are loud and harassed us until we left. He kept yelling across that we have big mouths, loud mouths .... I asked Claudia when she brought me the bill if she could politely tell him to knock it off. We could hear he and the 4 or 5 women he was with there laughing and discussing the flavors of ice cream they wanted laughing amongst themselves. The accoustics there, it is common to hear others conversing, but nobody meadow's. During the course of this luncheon, Eva asked Claudia for Spumoni. Eva being in late 70's has a harder time hearing across the table. Claudia repeated to her twice, but keep in mind that the music is unwelcome and very loud. Get rid of the music and it may help. Sitting alongside Eva, I repeated to Eva she doesn't have Spumoni, but could bring Tortoni. Claudia rolled her eyes, which never was her character in the past, and definitely a hurtful insult and while I generally tip double to triple on early birds w excellent service, she got average tip. I am facing seeing an Oncologist next week and scared and this man about 60 continuing his harassing, I told him real class and we are facing an Oncologist appointment this is abusive. I asked Claudia to speak to the customer. She stormed away to not offer comfort. Frank, the owner, was there. He was loud and having a good time and obviously nobody does anything about abusive customers. I had to leave for my doctor an hour away, Eva said she mentioned to Claudia and her response was she couldn't get involved between this. I had left. Somebody should have respected it. Is this allowed in Dominic's? Should we call the police on harassment if it should happen again? I always promoted the staff and restaurant and am sick and highly insulted. No table was louder than the other. Many times we dined and seated to close to the removable wall to the party next door and couldn't hear ourselves think and never complained. I was just talking to Eva about the beautiful showers, a wedding and thinking of our son's 30th Birthday this year and maybe a bridal shower for our son's girl from Michigan and maybe their little wedding here. I don't think so now. Highly...
Read moreThis place was a complete joke and would never return or recommend anyone to visit this establishment. We booked a small get together just the other day with about 30 people or so.
First the guy setting the table had his iphone earbuds in and had his shirt untucked which was very unprofessional and he was not very helpful at all. They brought out the salad which looked to have been a few days old -- no way was it fresh as there were some very brown and soggy leaves in it. The entree selection sound nice I chose the veal -- which actually was pretty horrible as well as the pork chop and kids fingers.
Almost all of the food was small portions and had absolutely no flavor what so ever. The only dish that looked decent was the broiled salmon but even that had no flavor from what I was told. One of my biggest complaints was a person in the party ordered chicken parm and when it was brought out you can see it was over-fried. She complained and said that she doesn't want that and would like the salmon instead -- instead of taking the plate back and telling her not a problem the server sent someone else out, Jose, who told her it would be 15-minutes for the salmon and that they would have to charge her for another meal -- she did not even eat it!!
That just put me over the top as I have worked in the food industry for a few years and would have never said that to a customer especially if I wanted them to return. These are the establishments you see on Restaurant Impossible or Restaurant Stakeout and they can't figure why people won't come back.
First buy some better quality food, second add some flavor to the food and third work on your customer service skills.
Dominic's was a complete joke and I would not send anyone there -- unless I didn't like that person and thought the should have a terrible meal along with horrible customer service.
In closing, Dominic's...
Read morePart 1 of 2: We have patronized Dominic's in Avenel, NJ, many times over the past years. Last night we were celebrating a retirement dinner (party of 6), that a reservation was made two months ago. We had a 3:15 reservation since the person retiring was traveling by public transportation, 2 buses, from NY. We were on time. When we got there, there were 2 others tables of people. One table of 6 or 8 people were extremely loud and obnoxious and even using profanity and singing - causing us to not enjoy our own company. Politely I went to the waitress station discreetly as if I were going to the ladies room after half an hour of hearing them since us staring at them wasn't getting them the message to care. We were embarrassed moreso for our special guest. The service was horrible!!!! We were good customers and knew what we wanted to eat and were no bother to the waiters. We placed our order and my son and I both ordered the same dish "veal francese with pasta". We asked the pasta on the side, which we had many times before this way. The waiter said "if I put it on the side, it must have red sauce". (part 2...
