I hosted a party here back in Feb 2024. It was. 60-70 person affair. The owner was very responsive and flexible with my requests, accommodations while I was planning etc. I had lots of questions that he was able to help answer. However on the day of the party, he was not super attentive to our event. He left the service and dealings to the staff who often had to go back and forth to him for specifics. The food was really good. Tasty, fresh, hot and delicious. So no complaints there. My two biggest concerns were around what was promised and what was executed. One of the agreed upon dishes wasn't even included in the buffet. When I inquired about this, the owner said there was a miscommunication however didn't take any interest in making good on it. Not until I pressed him did he simply offer up a free meal for me and my family. I expected some money returned to me to be honest. I didn't expect him to just brush over and not acknowledge it. When I told him again he said "it was only one dish" as if not a big deal. What was I going to do with a meal if my guests didn't get the full variety of dishes? Second issue was that he told me all the leftover food would be sent home with us. However, they only sent us one tray of naan, and two trays of the curry. Our buffet consisted of WAY more food than that and I expect that if you tell me all Of the food will be sent home with me then ALL of the food be sent home with me. Down to the rice,salads, leftover apps etc!! I specifically was looking forward to the sweet dishes since as the host, I barely got to sit and enjoy any of the food especially the dessert. However, that did not happen. None of the desserts that I paid for were sent home with me. Instead, the owner and his shady practices kept all of the food that could be repurposed into next days service. So he made his money back in double. I have no problem paying for top notch quality food and services. However I don't expect to get swindled and don't appreciate getting taken advantage of. He charged us extra as we wanted a bigger variety of food and I didn't mind. But then when it comes to keeping up to his part of the agreement, he didn't act accordingly. This is the biggest problem with desi owned establishments. They have NO problem charging you left and right but will NEVER keep their word or promise. Other main areas of concerns are: cleanliness not up to par - the place is out of date and not well maintained. Instead of pocketing all of the profits, they should reinvest money back into the establishment for better lighting, cleaner bathroom facilities, updated structural enhancements etc. Because as I said food was delicious and everything takes away from that part. I am a foodie. My favorite cuisines are Pakistani desi food, Mediterranean and chinese. I have been living in the states for 21 years and back then in NJ you had limited options among Pakistani restaurants with only Shalimar, shahnawaz and shezan available but ever since Shahi Palace, Chai Chenak and Good Food By Uzma have come they have raised the bar and standard of quality food that they offer. Its not easy to run a restaurant so i give mad respect to them to maintain high standards. Coming to Shahi palace and I have to say it is one of the finest Pakistani restaurants in NJ. They are probably the only Pakistani restaurant now in NJ that offer buffet with a variety of food selection and dessert. The buffet is offered only on the weekends. I have been coming to this restaurant since 2016 and every food item that I have ordered has been delicious and mouth watering . The owners and the staff are very nice. They go above and beyond for their customers. Though I love most of their food items that they have to offer but my personal favorites are Chicken Biryani, chicken seekh kebab, Chilli Chicken, Sesame Chicken and Aloo Palak. Their home-made or custom made Kulfi is far better then the kulfi that's sold out in the market. Have so many memories attached with this restaurant.
