This menudo is pure like the driven snow, and suitable for all palets - not too spicy but can be supplemented by complimentary chili sauce to enhance the skolds traditionally required to sweat out one's morning hangover. This soup doesn't miss a beat when plated or ordered to go. As any connoisseur of menudo will say, a good stock has no scent. The spirit of this soupy blend is an essence which provokes fond memories of a time long ago when I was blessed to consume this delicious meal for the first time. With an elegant hominy to meat ratio, men would make pilgrimage for a modest cup of this soup, and move mountains for one bowl.
With ample space for large groups, it's a shame that with Woodland treasure Las Maracas Restaurant is located far from heavy traffic as the business is still building a strong customer base. With reasonable prices and quality cuisine, the relaxing atmosphere any guests fortunate enough to eat here, will definitely return.
The customer services is very good too.
Probably the only thing better than the menudo itself was the complimentary Tortillas that come with it. Homemade, with the texture of an decadent pastry crepe void of dryness or crumbling, it holds together excellently when used in unison with the soup.
The horchata they make is full bodied and delicious too, with my first sip my eyes were compelled shut as I envisioned waves of cinnamon cascading over my tastebuds.
The quesadilla was of average quality but didn't disappoint as supplementary to our main dishes. The hashbrowns were not oversalted and were made with real potatoes, albeit a bit lukewarm but I enjoyed them nonetheless.
Friendly competent servers and a down to earth aesthetic which is classic and a bit eccentric at the same time, I would have felt comfortable dressed up or eating in my pajamas (and I was in my pajamas - as was another patron picking up a to-go order of - you guessed it.... menudo 😊😙😊). The tex-mex decorative theme reminded me of a more polished and authentic Texas Road House.
As I write this review I feel yesterday's IPA being potentley, and pleasantly being pushed through my pores despite the absence of my palate taking a pounding from pepper. I am 💯 satisfied. And I am so happy Las Maracas is now in Woodland. I would highly recommend visiting them soon, and I know that I will spend many more weekends frequenting this delightfully unique...
Read moreWe arrived before lunch. It was our first visit. We were greeted and was able to sit where we pleased. The waitress got our drinks, brought hot chips and tasty salsa and allowed some time to look at the menu. I ordered flauntas rice and beans. My dining companion ordered 2 crispy chicken tacos with rice and beans. The food arrived within 10 minutes hot and tasty. Free refills on sodas. I was surprised that the place wasn't too busy for lunch. It's not on the main streets of town but parking is close and easy to access. The restaurant is clean and nice and cool. Service...
Read moreMenudo everyday all winter, maybe just weekends in the summer and it's excellent, choice of with or without corn and pigs foot. Prices are super reasonable. Had a chance to chat with the owner he's been in the biz for decades and is very passionate about his food. Super nice people this is the kind of local place you want in your town. They do a mixture of American and Mexican so there's pancakes and eggs, biscuits and gravy as well as all your Mexican favorites. I'm from Clearlake but this will be my regular stop when cruising through. Stop in you won't be...
