I have a special place in my heart for gas station restaurants so I was excited.
I got an asada super burrito, it was just okay.
The tortilla was super good. The refried beans also super good and creamy. The other stuff, asada in particular, was super chewy with lots of gristle and stuff and some burned bits which kinda took away from the yumminess of the beans and tortilla.
I want to like this place though and I suspect breakfast and dishes like the chorizo and birria are where they really shine.
Customer service isn’t really a thing here. They only take cash and if you’re covid conscious, uh, they don’t mask at all 😕
Edit: 2nd visit, still no masking - that doesn’t bother me too much but FYI for folks that would mind it. Went back for breakfast and had a chorizo burrito. Chorizo is as expected really good - much better than my initial experience with asada. The burrito is a little leaky and I think these really delicious tortillas could stand to be a touch bigger for burritos, I wish the burritos included the yummy refried beans they have here. I will try to make it back for the birria which I suspect is really likely the shining ingredient here. I’d say 4 stars for the chorizo burrito. Yummy tortilla still the star - I wish the chorizo was a little more spicy and a little more finely ground. I really wanna like this place and give it 5 stars, I’ll give it one more go with the birria...
Read moreI have been on a quest to find authentic Michoacán style enchiladas in Sacramento. After doing a bunch of research looking at photos of enchiladas all across the county I stumbled upon this taqueria. I made the trek to the woodland gas station and wasn't disappointed. For a gas station taqueria the enchiladas were delicious and some of the best authentic enchiladas I've had in Sacramento. They aren't as good as Doña Mari's in south natomas, but the Sazon was delicious and the staff were friendly.
The only negatives was a lot of flies at the eating area inside and the expensive pricing...
Read moreExcellent authentic Mexican food! Chile relleno was great and I love that they have three different types of salsa and grilled onions and grilled jalapenos on the buffet bar for you to get as much as you like! I had three types of tacos and the pastor was the best followed by the carnitas.
I'm giving this place five stars for the food, not for the sit down area or environment. If you don't mind eating gas station food, this really is outstanding authentic Mexican. I'll be back when I'm...
