This was our first (and last) time to eat at Luigi's in Waco. We had heard good things about the one in McGregor and decided to give it a try. We walked in to a tiny crowded waiting area. The restaurant appearance was so generic that it could have served Bar-b-que or hamburgers. There was noting inviting to look at or notice, except the concrete floors. The regular entrees were in the $10 to $14 range. We asked for a house salad. When served, it was consisted of "white" lettuce, 1 piece of tomato and it was covered with grated mozzarella cheese. The house dressing tasted like it was right out of a bottle. I was hoping our meal would be better, but no...it was worse. We had Chicken Piccata and Chicken Pomodoro. Both were tasteless, there did not appear to be any fresh ingredients, and the chicken was hardly chewable. When our very nice server came to bring our check and noticed we had not eaten much, she asked if we wanted take home cartons. I told her we could not eat the food and did not want to take it home. She was very apologetic and I told her it was not her fault. When she returned with our bill, she said she told the manager/owner and he told her to tell us we could have something else, but the meal would not be " comped". Wenever asked for that, but as a manager if I knew a customer was unhappy, I would not send a 20 year old server to take care of that. He should have come over and talked to us himself. He evidently did not care, and as a result, we will not be returning and I am posting...
Read moreExcellent food. Convenient location. I have traveled extensively and eaten at many places. I have been very blessed to take pleasure in the most expensive, highest quality places and I have been forced to eat at some of the quick/kid friendly places as well! One of the most important items to me is cleanliness. If the restroom is not well stocked and clean that is a cause for concern. If the staff are not capable of keeping the customers’ most used place neat and tidy, how can they possibly handle preparing my food and getting my order delivered correctly and promptly. I also observe the host and wait staff. The hostess/greeter must be friendly and knowledgeable to win me over. The person holding this position can make or break the business. I enjoy a menu with a variety of offerings. Our family will normally get an appetizer, main course and a variety of desserts. We enjoy a sampling of items. I usually take notice of the presentation of the food and try to post pictures when possible. Our family enjoys distinctive cuisines. We enjoy cooking together and it is fun to experience different food items at unique places. I do believe that the amount of food served should be equivalent...
Read moreWe came to Luigi’s for lunch. We were surprised to find marvelous Business Lunch offerings at a discount from their dinner menu. The servings were the full dinner size!
The eggplant Parmesan we ordered was tremendous! The eggplant was thinly sliced along the length of the eggplant. It was dipped in egg and flour, not bread crumbs. The eggplant was flavorful and not oily. The marinara sauce in the dish was hearty with just right amount of garlic. The eggplant and sauce were covered with mozzarella cheese and broiled to a light brown melt. My only criticism is the need for a bit more oregano in the marinara.
We grew up in New Jersey in Italian restaurant/ pizzeria heaven. In the suburbs of New York City, there was a great family owned Italian restaurant about every two miles! The eggplant Parmesan we had at Luigi’s was great and reminded me of eggplant Parmesan I would get in NJ!
We will definitely return to Luigi’s! For the great food, the great service, and the atmosphere of a true family owned Italian bistro!
