I have been going to this restaurant for the last 12 years since my wife introduced me to it. Previous to that she had been going for a few years before we met.
The staff is very friendly and it does not take long before they start to know your face and your favorites on the menu.
There have been a couple of times where an order has been not-as-good-as-usual, but not bad enough to complain about at all because those two or three times only happened when they were training new kitchen staff.
There is lots of seating available, including the bar. There is a mix of high top tables and regular tables. No matter where you sit you have a good view of a number of televisions which are always tuned to various sports stations. In the warmer months there is an outdoor seating area with two televisions in it.
They have a broad but simple menu and I have never tried anything that was not good or that I did not like. This I say as a classically trained chef. If you like French fries, you must try their bottleneck fries!
They recently updated their look to a more modern look while still keeping the style and feel that people have come to know and love. The decor is sports-related items and retro memorabilia, such as famous images of old Hollywood icons, etc. It is not tacky, however. Part of this upgrade, by the way, included the installation of a pizza oven. They have a menu for that consisting of your standard pizza combinations, or you can build your own.
Another thing they are known for is their own line of award-winning beers which is ever changing per the season. They also have national brands on tap and a quite decently stocked bar.
As mentioned earlier, the staff are very good at their jobs and they go above and beyond for their customers. Even the owner is in a lot of the time, helping in various areas. We have seen some beloved waitstaff come and go (usually younger ones that had this job while in college and then going on to a career). Two of our favorite mainstays are Karen and Mara - both are fantastic!
The restaurant is great for date nights but it can get a bit loud when it gets packed, which happens especially when sports games are on and Friday & Saturday nights.
This is one of our go-to restaurants because the atmosphere is great, the food is always good and the staff...
Read moreHave been going to Sports for 20plus years.... tonight was the worst night of service ever. (07-14-2017) The waitress Nancy did it in, I will never go back. When we sat down she asked if we wanted food we said yes, she brought menus; about 30mins later she came and asked if we wanted another drink we said yes, we also said that we wanted to order food, she said it will be "awhile" I then asked how long, she said "A long while"; she stated that we did not want food when we sat down, I said that we did, and why did she bring us the menus if we didn't?? I said it was neither here nor there but we wanted food and could we order it now, she flat out said no, "It will be a while"......The worst service ever, Karen another waitress is far more professional; Karen also works at Smokey's on the Water, Grosse Ile; we will go there to see her, but will never go back to Sports. We have been going there since they began as Sports, again 20plus years!!...but oh well too many other places in town to walk to........would not recommend this place to anyone, Whiskey's, Captains...etc. far better service! IF I could give it ZERO stars I would, but I could not and be able...
Read moreFirst time visiting the NEW sports bar and grill. This place is just okay. The food wasn't bad, wasn't good. Prices seem to trend a little on the higher side. Service wasn't great, very slow, uninterested. I question some of the cleanliness and management. Place was busy but not crowded. We ordered an appetizer for the four of us. Three plates were delivered all of different shapes and sizes. We asked for another plate she brought us a chipped one and said there were no more left, and asked if the chipped one would work for us. What? Saw a guy preparing dough to make a pizza walk from the back room to the front where the oven is switching dough from one hand to another. He stopped to talk to somebody and continue done. Not sure I want my food, while being prepared traveling through a restaurant having conversations with it collecting germs and God knows what else. My first visit reminded me of the show bar rescue. I like the location I hope they make improvements I might be back to sit on the patio when the garage door is open for the...
