Will not be back. Arrived when I was told the food would be ready while the girl was friendly she was brand new and had no idea how to work the register, she couldn’t find my order had no idea how to check me out and had to go and ask a manager, which makes sense why the food ended up being cold by the time I did get home. In the process she realized I guess they forgot my soup and edamame so they were rushing to try to make it when everything else was done, and in the process severely over cooked the edamame to the point that it was barely edible. I’ve eaten sushi in every major city in the eastern half of the country. It is by far my favorite food. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this disappointed for $60 of food in my life. Kome is easily 50x better. Sushi Q 30x better. Honestly Kroger sushi would have been less disappointing than this place.
The spider roll had no avocado when it was listed on the menu. The cucumber was flavorless. The rolls were bland and boring. Literally grocery store sushi has been better. Higher prices than other places locally that with 5,10 visits never had any blunders like this one did.
Granted new staff, maybe it was kind of an off night but if I owned this restaurant and a friend secret shopped it for me, and I had heard of this experience; I would be livid with absolutely every single person that was working that night.
It’s funny because downtown Wyandotte really wants to try to be Plymouth and Northville. It’s not just about charging more. This may come as a surprise, but The quality is supposed to increase too guys. With how bland everything was, with how hastily over cooked the edamame was, and with everything that was supposed to be warm cooled from improper planning… They were not even that busy and it’s not like I came in right at closing time or something like that. Without a doubt I would say avoid this place and maybe instead just go take three $20 bills and burn them with a lighter it would probably be more enjoyable.
Every time I passed by this location I wanted to try it, but after doing so I’m just glad that I found places like Kome. Maybe the generic copy and paste name of “sushi bar Japanese cuisine” was a giveaway that this place was going to suck as bad as a sushi place possibly could.
Reply to owner: Nice copy and paste reply - I wouldn't come back if it was free- you are honestly lucky I care about small businesses enough that I don't reverse the charges for what...
Read moreBrought my younger brother in for sushi for his birthday. We usually frequent Black Pine Tree but for special occassions we'll try a new place here and there.
Within 10 minutes of sitting down my brother noticed something in the soy sauce. He shook it but we couldnt tell what it was (the sauce is so dark) so we unscrewed it and used our clean chopsticks to pull what was a fully mature dead mayfly up. The waitress was very apologetic and explained their sanitation process and how it was very unusual for that to happen. I myself have found fruit flies in soy sauce before and this restaurant is by a river so it wasnt too shocking for us. She offered us a free appetizer but we never usually get them so we weren't interested. We decided to still try the food and ordered.
The pricing for this restaurant is pretty high compared to other restaurants we've gone to. We ordered a combo, two specialty rolls and a peice of nigiri. Any sushi lover knows the presentation is a big part of the dinner. It should look very good and this dinner was not much to brag about appearance-wise. The texture also was sub par in that the rice didnt taste "fresh" -- if youve had good quality sushi and in contrast have had buffet or supermarket sushi you know what I'm referring to. Over time the rice seems heavy or mushy and just isnt very good. This sushi was wrapped in what I can only describe as supermarket sushi quality rice. The nigiri was room temperature.
We paid our bill and afterward the waitress gave us a $25 gift card for the bug incident, which was very nice. Unfortunately we wont be returning to Sushi Bar to use the gift card so we passed it to a couple who was entering the shop as we left. I gave this place 2 stars instead of 1 because the waitress was very nice while trying to make up for...
Read moreSo if the restaurant owner ends up reading this its only 4 stars due to the pricepoint and the staffing. But 110% kudos to the chef that was preparing the sushi the night we went. I did not catch his name but he was a kind older gentleman. . So most of the sushi rolls here are $4-$8 more expensive than other sushi places in the area and in terms of selection its a little less than other sushi restaurants we have been to. But isn't necessarily a bad thing. The food was very flavorful but it took almost 90 minutes from when we ordered our food for 6 rolls and they were slightly busy. BUT, my understanding is that 2 of their chefs called off last minute so it was just the one chef and he gave us a very sincere apology. All in all the bill for 5 rolls and an order of chicken teriyaki came to $110. We will be back at least once more to see if there is more control with the proper amount of chefs and thus less chaos and waiting and if it solves the issues above I will gladly revise my review to 5 stars. . Just a side note- nothing bad. We were going to bring my brother here because he likes sushi but he's 10 and we didn't want to explain the meaning of the "Multiple Orgasm Roll" or the "Viagra Max Roll" . TL;DR: It is a nice little sushi restaurant with great flavors but the prices are nice for a treat and I will be back. But I have a hard time justifying the price when there are 5 or 6 sushi places within 5 miles with 80% of the flavor for 40%...
