One of the largest parks in Wyandotte and one of only two with water front access. Bishop Park is a community attraction. The park has two pavilions which are first come first serve. If you are looking to obtain a pavilion in the summer months on a Saturday I would suggest arriving by 6AM to secure your location. Once pavilion is located near the center of the park and has electrical connections (bring a step ladder unless you are 9 feet tall). The other pavilion is located near the play area (perfect you're the child's birthday party).
The Park also offers an Olde Timers Log Cabin for rent from the City. This is a smaller cabin but good for those in need an indoor location for the event. Just outside the cabin is a series of built in picnic tables, these can be used in conjunction with the cabin (be warned this cannot be rented, again first come first serve).
Also on location is a Food Stand. They package foods and drinks for sale. Also at this location are restrooms.
On the southern end of the park is additional play equipment and lots of open grass space to enjoy a picnic. A Veterans memorial flanks the southernmost portion. Just on the other side of the memorial is a large city provided free parking lot that is located behind the Downtown Wyandotte businesses.
Bishop Park also boasts a decent size fishing pier and boardwalk. Fishing is controlled and limited to specific times and location so others can joy the area. The boardwalk is also home to a kayak and canoe launch.
Because Bishop Park is one of the largest and most attractive locations in the area it brings in people from all over. So please don't complain that it is busy or there are people that you don't necessarily agree with there way of life. Be considerate of those around you and as Aretha Franklin would say RESPECT one another! Don't disrespect the park, clearly you have come here to enjoy it, please pick up after yourself so others...
Read moreThis playground is so out of date... there are so many issues with the safety and maintenance of the swings playground it's quite disgusting.. The tunnel they have bolts are close to coming out and if that happens someone is gonna fall and get hurt. The ground all in the playground area is coming undone and there is a huge hole at the end of the slide that's enclosed... Wyandotte has allowed this "once" must go place to become another dying playground kids used to always enjoy playing on but with the city in financial ruins this is what happens.. This is another great opportunity for the city to get into the business of medical and recreational Marijuana dispensaries.... I am so sick of this 1800's mentality that Marijuana is the DEVIL???? I think that EVERYONE should be able to get the medical treatment or care they decide is right for them. With all the tax revenue from this Bishop Park could really make a mark on the map for Michigan??? Maybe because it's considered downriver that's why nobody cares?? I know when I was a kid going to the park playing in the street and just having fun were normal... I feel that with technology that leaders just assume parks and basketball courts are just useless for kids to use?? We need to do more as we are the government and we are not being taken seriously so maybe it's time to March and say what it is we want and until we get that we will not do what we promised to do. In the last 3.5 years under this Despicable administration we have in Washington D.C who allows drugs in the White House and doesn't have a full investigation done is a pretty good clue that his son forgot his crack.... Stop sending money to Ukraine and making us believe that we are doing something good. Wake up People.. Our parks, roads, city services, and everything else we have always enjoyed as Americans is GONE!! TIME FOR US TO TAKE IT TO...
Read moreFor the most part this is a great park to bring the kids and let them wear themselves out.
We have been coming here since our now-teenager was little, and our two year old loves it too.
The main playscape is as clean as you would expect any playscape to be, and the smaller one is very dirty, but we never use that one.
The equipment (the playscapes, swings, etc.) seem to be kept up to safety standards.
The parking area and some other areas of the park sometimes seem to gather trash that sits for a while. The restroom facilities (at least the men's side) is okay, usable, but not the cleanest. My wife said that the women's side is pretty much the same and that the soap dispensers are not always kept up - that is an issue on both sides.
There are certain policies that the city has posted which are pretty well enforced (no bicycles inside, etc.). Those policies are, however, only posted near the entries along the fence, so if you enter the park from other areas you will not see those notices.
There are some nice shady and grassy areas that look great for picnics and they also have a couple of gazebo areas with tables for that as well. Those gazebo areas are also hit and miss as to whether they...
