Ever thought of doing a wedding and trusting a good looking restaurant for lunch? That's what I thought of doing in these tough times of Covid (hope people reading this are keeping safe and didn't have to undergo any hardships). For the 20 odd guests, I planned a lunch for them in the outdoor space of a restaurant. We saw this restaurant near our wedding location and based on the experience of our friends who hosted a baby shower in the NYC Benares branch we thought of giving this a try. First thing first, we came to sample and the food was delicious; amongst the good ones in this area and hence we chose Benares for our special occasion. The biggest PROBLEM though was the manager Mr RANBIR BHATIA. He single-handedly ruined lunch for my most important guests. Based on common consent with him and given Covid situation we booked the outdoor space of the restaurant for our wedding guests. His hospitality was terrible. I have no words to describe. He made my guests (especially the elderly ones) feel ashamed in front of the whole gathering. Twice during the time we sat there, he proclaimed to all my guests that "we tried to not have him do the event here but it is happening only because of this guy {thats me: the groom}". His food was substandard compared to the tasting; whether it was the brownie in this signature dish "atom bomb" or tasteless water in pani-puri shots. I will describe Mr. BHATIA as someone who lacks empathy and who shouldn't be in the hospitality business at all. Personally, I now think of him as a very small-minded, egoistic, megalomaniac personality (someone with whom I wish to never cross paths in the future). Finally and in hindsight, I feel I missed all the signs of someone who wouldn't treat your guests right. During finalizing he wanted to add costs for his crockery (imagine going to a restaurant now to eat and pay for the crockery separately). Displaying sarcasm when my wife called in to confirm that our guests are coming back from the ceremony (again shows signs of lack of empathy). Going back and forth on the exact arrangements that were to be made outdoors; refusing to turn on the space heaters in the extreme cold (forget about thinking ahead and putting them on before the guests arrive). I will not have my wedding lunch the second time but folks who deal with this guy let me caution you! Mr. BHATIA is a blemish to this brand of restaurants and the restaurant business. I wish I could give him less...

Read moreFive of us came for a Friday night dinner, and none of us were disappointed. I recommend any of the lamb dishes for your meal and the lentil pudding for dessert, though I loved everything I tried.
To start, we ordered 3 appetizers: samosas, eggplant chaat, and melai kebabs. The samosas were delicate and delicious, as samosas always are. The eggplant was nice and crispy with great flavor. And the kebabs were really, really great; the chicken was wonderfully tender, juicy, and flavorful.
While I don't recall all the mains that were ordered, I can tell you that we did order the lamb vindaloo, goat biryani, and peshawari chole. I tasted them all, and loved every single one. My dish, the lamb vindaloo, was really nice. Rich, warming, and spicy, though I would have liked even a bit spicier, to be honest. The lamb pieces were honestly the softest, most tender lamb I've ever had, and I would definitely recommend a lamb dish to anyone who likes it.
To finish, we ordered the pistachio ice cream and the lentil pudding. The ice cream was rather icy, but perhaps that traditional and how it should be; I do prefer a creamier ice cream. The lentil pudding was actually really good. I was skeptical at first, but it was warm, perfectly sweet, nutty, and was really rather unique. I would recommend it.
My only complaint is perhaps the service. Our server was a little curt with us; while he wasn't explicitly unfriendly, he was friendly, and wasn't very patient with us when we had questions about the menu. Also, the extra staff were a little too eager to grab our dishes, and on several occasions asked to take plates when they clearly weren't ready...
