My friends and I really wanted to like this place and gave it a couple chances. Unfortunately the Vietnamese flavors aren’t quite there and the dishes weren’t cooked well.
The beef pho broth lacked depth and was served lukewarm. If you choose to add a short rib to your pho, it is small and not worth the upgrade.
The chicken pho only included a few pieces of very dry chicken breast.
The chicken wing appetizers were fried well, but tasted bland because they didn’t toss it with enough sauce.
The grilled pork spring rolls was supposed to have crispy wonton skin inside of it, but the skins were mushy by the time it was served. The peanut sauce they served with it did not taste good.
I liked the tapioca dumplings, but I suspect those were bought premade and they steamed it.
The pork eggroll filling was too sweet.
The papaya salad was good, but I found it interesting that they used soy sauce instead of traditional fish sauce.
The shaken beef with rice was not cooked well. The meat lacked a char and seemed like it was boiled in its own juices.
The sizzling steak and eggs had the same issue with the meat cook. The meat was not charred and seemed like it was boiled in its own juices. The eggs were undercooked and still had runny white parts. The bread that accompanied wasn’t toasted. It also came out after the dish was served. The hot plate they served it on was not hot so the ingredients did not continue to cook.
The Bun Cha Ha Noi and Bun Bo hue weren’t good either.
Service was really good the second time. First time we had to flag down staff to bring out missing accompaniments and the wrong drink brought to us.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t come back to this restaurant. I would still stick to the other local Vietnamese restaurants for now if you’re looking for...

Pho House GR is a must-visit in Grand Rapids for authentic Vietnamese cuisine.
As someone who grew up in a family that owned a pho restaurant, I have extremely high standards when it comes to Vietnamese food—especially pho. I visited Pho House GR with my wife and my mom (who is famously picky about Vietnamese dishes she makes at home), and we were all seriously impressed.
We arrived on a Thursday evening around 6 PM and the place was packed, which was a great sign. The menu is simple and focused, which shows they’re committed to doing a few things really well—and they absolutely delivered.
We started with the Nem Nuong Gio Cuon (grilled pork spring rolls)—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly wrapped. My wife had the Com Bo Luc Lac (shaken beef) and loved the tenderness of the beef combined with saffron rice and sautéed veggies.
I ordered the Pho Xe Lua, served in a steaming stone pot with oxtail and short rib. The presentation was stunning, but the real win was the broth—deep, beefy, and perfectly balanced with star anise and subtle sweetness. You could taste the hours of slow simmering in every spoonful.
The real highlight? My mom’s Bún Bò Huế. It’s her favorite dish, and she’s very particular about it. After just one bite, she said it was so good she no longer feels the need to make it herself—and she’s already planning to bring friends back.
The service was friendly, the atmosphere was lively, and the quality was top-tier. Whether you’re a pho lover, a Vietnamese food enthusiast, or just someone looking for a delicious meal in Grand Rapids, Pho House GR is a local gem you don’t...
Read moreMy love for Pho runs deep, thanks to my brother who introduced me to this wonderful dish at a young age. While I'm no expert, I've been lucky to find some incredible spots over the years. My latest discovery, thanks to a TikTok recommendation, might just be my new favorite!
From the moment I walked in, the experience was wonderful. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, immaculately clean, and the service is top-notch. The staff is attentive and ensures everything is perfect from the moment you order until you finish your meal.
Now, for the star of the show: the food! I ordered the #2 Pho Ga (Chicken Pho) along with the pork egg rolls and steamed dumplings. Everything was absolute perfection! The broth was so flavorful, and the ingredients were incredibly fresh. I loved it so much that I accidentally splashed a little spicy broth in my eye, a true testament to my enthusiasm (and clumsiness!), but totally worth it.
What truly sets this place apart, even for takeout, is the incredible care they put into every order. When you get food to-go, it often doesn't travel well, but here it feels exactly like dining in, just from the comfort of my home! They provide everything: broth spoons, chopsticks, all the necessary sauces, and fresh garnishes, all perfectly organized.
I've been so impressed that I've eaten here five times in just two weeks! I wholeheartedly recommend this gem. Next on my list is to try their drinks. I'm sure they'll be...
