Avenida Cantina — Restaurant in Yakima

I’d only been here 1 time before but a couple weekends ago some friends of mine were there and told me to come so I went there…. I handed my ID to one of the security guys, they wanted to take my picture..? I was like ok no prob… The guy was like ok look at the camera please…. —— Out of nowhere the owner (come to find out) steps over and says to his security “Uhhh… that’s too much blue for a white boy”… I was kind of shocked honestly… I had on a black hat, blue shirt, black shorts, black socks, and Blue shoes…(Mind you I’m by myself trying to get in) I told the security guy I’d go change into a black shirt… would that be cool or? He’s like yea go change shirts - So I run to my truck switch shirts (now I’m in all black with blue shoes) and when I got back to the door now the security dude pulls the little retractable thing on the top of the little pole and says “Yea sorry bro you can’t come in” … I really couldn’t believe it … Not sure why they said yes when I asked about changing my shirt if they weren’t gunna let me in anyway…? ALSO- I was completely sober I hadn’t been drinking or smoking or anything at all prior to getting there. I’m not sure what the owner has against me or “white boys” .. he’s a white dude himself. A couple days later I realized my License wasn’t in my wallet, Immediately I remembered giving it to the security guy then running out to change and all that stuff happening and they never did hand me back my License and honestly I was kind of insulted, embarrassed, idk so I just left not thinking about it. I couldn’t ever get a person on the phone when I called Their phone number (ever during business hours) so I went back down there for my ID and wouldn’t you know it, its nowhere to be found and they don’t have it. I know for a fact I left it there that night, I guess that was my bad, but I guess they just chucked it or whatever. Not gunna be going...

Terrible. I remember I visited this place on (St. Patrick's Day 2021). Things were just starting to open up. Great vibe of the club...However.... (At the time, I didn't know what the place was called.) I was with two other friends. I went to the restroom and they were all out of stock on hand soap, uh hello, CORONA? How were people using the restroom without soap??? lol. I remember we had ordered some food and drinks. We waited at least a good 30 minutes and our drinks still hadn't been given. (Mind you the food was given first?) My friend looked over at the bar and noticed there was some drinks on a tray on the counter, just chilling there. My friend let this one white american guy know who was on the job drinking beer whom I assume was probably the owner because of his arrogance, to ask about our drinks. She was pretty annoyed at this point, and he saw that in her face. I remember clearly he says to her "Sorry, but If you haven't realized were in the middle of a pandemic sweetie, and if you can do us all a favor a put a smile on that face." When I tell y'all I was in shock...I was literal shock. I have never seen anyone in food service talk to a customer like that. Let alone an OWNER being RUDE to a random customer. I respectfully left a good tip for our amazing waitress but I vowed to NEVER come here again. Truly disappointing. We left soon after because we hate confrontation. A sister (1 of many siblings) of mine came to visit from SoCal last month. As we drove west on Yakima Ave one afternoon, she noticed the outdoor seating of Avenida and wondered out loud, what type of fare they had to offer. I mentioned the business hadn't been in existence, at least not at it's present location, for very long and I wasn't familiar at all with the cantina. Upon entering, I erased all images of clear plastic covered menus and especiales de la casa. The existence of a stage/dancefloor and vast assortment of liquor bottles further exhibits the primary focus of Avenida Cantina. To oblige the customer that enjoys the consumption of intoxicating liquids and other amenities of a club/lounge. The interior was clean and the restroom was adequately stocked. The menu was very limited but it's to be expected. After all, cantina is pretty straightforward. The nachos I received were satisfactory and reasonably priced.
