Oh dear. This property is right next door to the Yakima Convention Center and in the heart of downtown, close to most of what little that has to offer. That's about the best that can be written about it. ||When you arrive, despite the clear age of the property (it looks like it was designed by the Dad in the Brady Bunch circa 1970) the lobby is deceptively plush and well appointed. The staff are friendly enough, but it's all a bit of a veneer.||The first thing to note is that the property is spread over several buildings, all of which are on two floors. Yet the main building where you check in is the only one with an elevator. It's thus very important that if you have any mobility issues and stairs are not accessible for you, make sure you are in the main building. Some of the buildings are a long way from the lobby and once you are in them, having negotiated the stairs, you will still be walking long corridors to your room.||The rooms are where things get dicey. Superficially they look tired and old, but this hides a grubbiness and general lack of maintainence that makes the stay depressing, despite the rates being lower than most of the nearby competition.||Bedding is old, worn, tired. It may be cleaned, but it doesn't feel or look fresh. Carpets aren't worn, but they are stained and sticky. The furniture is battered and worn. The drapes are old and falling off the rails. Each room has a balcony. If you are not facing the pool area, then you're facing the parking lots and those balconies are filthy and neglected. The pigeon mess covers everything.||There is aircon/heating and it does work, but it's noisy as hell. There is a fridge and microwave, but the fridge freezes everything and cannot be adjusted. There are no shelves in the fridge. There is a huge flat screen TV, but no channels such as ESPN or HBO or anything other than standard free to air TV. WIFI is reliable while you're logged in, but you are logged out every time you idle. You can be logging back in 20 times a day. Any time you leave the room, or just idle.||Bathrooms are old. The sink and tub is scratched, worn, chipped, grubby. The plugs don't hold water. The water pressure is good and the hot water is hot, but the faucets are old and hard to adjust. The toilet flush was broken and the toilet water kept running. Towels are tired and only superficially clean. Stains are plentiful. There is soap and shampoo provided, but there is no housekeeping at all, so if you run out, you need to go in search of the maid cart. There was an iron provided, but no ironing board.||There is a lot of noise from room to room and from the corridors. The pool area is fairly well maintained, but the water looked cloudy. A lot of guests were using it, so it may be OK.||Breakfast is provided for an additional $10 per person on Saturday and Sunday morning. It's not worth it. Some cereals, some hot items. Coffee, juices, pastries. No healthy items at all. There was a mass of yellow rubber that turned out to be scrambled eggs, plus some burnt offerings that tasted a bit like bacon. Potatoes were also provided. During the week, there's no breakfast at all. Coffee is available in the lobby. There was a coffee maker in the room, but no coffee provided.||The rates are a little lower than the competition in on the same street, but the quality is a LOT lower. It's a substandard property that needs a deep clean and a major...
Read moreThis place was, okay at best. The pool was ice cold, on a 90° day it wasn't warm enough to sustain life, I mean that literally, it was frigid.
The first night went well, we needed an extra blanket and pillow and Maria the front desk manager was more than happy to oblige and sent it to our room in a very timely manner. We hadn't been away from home in a long time so we decided to stay an extra night, that was a mistake!
I saw one of the housekeepers Cassandra, very nice young lady in the hallway and told her we had decided to stay another night and that my wife had gone to the front desk to make those arrangements. I told her We were going to my son's football game and we'd be gone four or five hours at least.
When we got back nothing had been done in our room, none of the trash cans had been emptied we didn't have fresh towels everything was soaking wet they hadn't done anything. It just so happened I saw Cassandra and she told me that her boss the head housekeeper Liz had told her not to clean our room.
Not sure what her problem was, but she definitely has one. Huge horrible bad attitude, she acted like I had kicked her puppy before, although I know I have never met that woman before in my life as I had never been to Yakima before in my life.
I called the front desk for my cell phone as they had no phone service in the rooms, I spoke with Bill who said something really stupid, in fact it was so stupid I can't remember what it was he said, he was rude, he was argumentative and not customer service oriented in any way shape or form.
I asked if I could speak with the manager who happened to be Maria he said well maybe she could call me back I said no I can hold he said okay and hung up on me. I went to the front desk and spoke to Maria and again she was very pleasant and after some conversation about why the room hadn't been changed because of some covid rules that no longer applied was the reason Liz instructed Cassandra not to clean our room. She was laying down cover for Liz which I understand but that's still wrong.
She then had the room cleaned, and it turned out to be Cassandra again who cleaned the room, she did a great job and it was immaculate. If you're someone out there looking for a great employee, call the Red Lion Inn and ask for Cassandra and hire her right away.
As for the Red Lion Hotel, the room was good, the service was lousy the second day, fortunately for us there were a couple people who were very helpful. Would we stay there again, it's a 50/50 shot that we would run into bill again so...
Read more1 star only because I cant put -5 stars. I stayed for 2 nights. The first night was nice and everything went well. I parked in the back because it was closer to my room.
The second night however I woke up to find my car was being put on a tow truck at 830am. I started yelling at the tow truck man and he informed me that the hotel called to tow it. Which I didn't understand because I registered my car with the front desk when I checked in 2 nights before. I went back to my room and called the front desk and said this is room 144, why are you towing my car, I registered my car with you. She said "Ohhh that's your car?" ....seriously? Then she let me know that someone had reported seeing several people going through my car either that night or early morning. So instead of calling the police to report people stealing OR tracking down which guest the car belonged to the hotel decided to have my car towed without informing or warning me!? I told the front desk to come tell the tow truck they can leave my car and it didn't need to be towed. The tow truck man unloaded my car in the middle of the parking lot where it stayed all day because whoever broke into my car along with stealing some worthless items also broke my already damaged ignition. I was very upset because not only did they start to tow my car without informing me, they also wouldn't assist me in getting to my training that day. I had virtually no help from the hotel when it came to transportation. I've worked in hotels and this has been the worst customer service I've ever seen or experienced. The entire time I was dealing with this situation I was not offered any help with transportation when the hotel has it's own shuttles. There was no manager on site and they couldn't contact their manager at all to help with the situation. This situation lasted all day from 830am to 730pm when a family member came all the way from moses lake to tow it back home. This is not a safe place. It does not have good customer service. And I dont recommend even coming to this city if you have an older Honda Civic because as my car was on the tow truck they commented "Something you should know if you're going to be in yakima is Honda civics are notorious for being broken into and stolen here." That's nice... They also had a homeless man sleeping on the other side of the fence on their property, not even 20 ft from my car. Terrible terrible experience. Such...
