I was looking for a Mexican restaurant in close proximity to my house. After a Google search, I made the unfortunate decision to give this place a try. For the life of me I couldn't recall seeing this restaurant on Summitview before. I frequently drive on this particular thoroughfare, to and from West Valley, therefore I found it strange I had no recollection of this establishment. I immediately remembered the building when I pulled into the parking lot. It's said you should never judge a book by it's cover, a metaphor that applies to many different circumstances. Although occasionally the cover is a perfect illustration of the contents contained therein. HOT summer day. I could have started the charcoal and stood next to the grill outside, instead of sitting in a hot restaurant waiting for a child sized plate of food. Honestly, I do not know what the food was. The menu showed tacos al carbon. I know what, excuse me, I thought I knew what to expect. Tortilla, semi filled with meat, folded and fried. Lettuce and a couple chunks of tomatoes on top of the 'tacos' I like to add whatever garnish I choose and this just wasn't possible. The shells cracked open. Couldn't add anything. Very small portion of beans and rice. I thought ahead and ordered a torta to go, with the thought of having something for later or even the next day. I left the restaurant hungry. The torta didn't even get a chance to get cold. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Whether it's the available seating, not entirely clean flatware or table, temperature of food/drinks or what have you, issues that arise can usually be addressed by a waiter/waitress. Not in this instance. The food, patron comfort and portion size are the very reasons I revisit ANY dining establishment. I wasn't satisfied to...
Read moreAh, Antojitos - some of the best Mexican food on this side of the border! Sometimes locally referred to as the Mexican Dairy Queen (it's in an old Dairy Queen location) - this place is AWESOME and totally worth a try!
As others have mentioned, the chip situation is a little different that most other places. Instead of normal sized chips, they fry the whole small tortilla and let you break it up to whatever size you want. It's different, but the chips are still delicious! You also get 6 types of salsa, ranging from hot to mild. In my opinion, the medium (redish-orange) is the best. The hot salsa (dark red) is smokier, but I actually didn't find it very hot on this trip.
I was most recently here for lunch and opted for the 2 sopitos combo, which is about $9. If you have never had a sopito, you haven't lived! It's a thick, fried torilla coved with meat, beans, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and onions. I chose the Chorizo and the Adobada for my meats. It also came with a side of rice and beans. The Chorizo was the hit of the table - it's a little spicy, but the little guys at the table were able to eat some no problem! Chorizo anything here is worth a try! Next time, I'd only get the single sopito combo - unless I was planning for leftovers - I didn't even touch the delicious rice and beans on this trip!
If you're a red blooded american who loves breakfast burritos (or even if you're not!), these are the best around! Figure about $8 for the burrito that you want, but 2 normal people could split one! They're huge, they're authentic, they're awesome!
If you've never been here, give it a try - I doubt you'll be...
Read moreWhen you travel across the United States as often as I do, and eat everywhere, you know when you’ve found the best. Antojitos Mexicanos is simply the best authentic Mexican food I have eaten in the states, there is no close second.
What to expect: Antojitos is situated on the main drag of Yakima, WA in an area I never expected to find the best Mexican food. I spent some time in the area a couple years ago and ended up eating here weekly, absolutely the best Mexican food experience anywhere close. The area provides great camping, hiking and is a main hub for overlanders passing through on the Washington back country discovery route.
About the food: When you sit down you are greeted very well and receive house made chips which are absolutely amazing. I usually ask for seconds… for chips. The chips are accompanied by 6 intellectually different delicious salsas. My favorite is the tomatillo. I ordered Sopes with lengua. The lengua is absolutely to die for. With the tender flavorful lengua topped with fresh lettuce, fresh diced tomatoes, sour cream and white Mexican cheese it’s a quite the combination. You will mark this one in the map for “wholly cow so good” places to eat.
What I love about this place is the humble demeanor of everyone here. There’s family in the dining area and family in the kitchen. You are having a family meal with these fine folks. The food is much more than The Typical Tourist would expect. Do not pass on this incredible Mexican diner...
