Norma's Restaurant — Restaurant in York

The food was okay, nothing special. It is a very mediocre diner that you could find anywhere. Two out of three seafood dishes were out. Our server was in charge of our one table and the counter, and although there were only four people at the counter, she still left us sitting and waiting to ask for corrections to the mistakes she made. The very few times she did come check on us, we could hardly ask for anything before she went zooming off again. At one point we had to go up and ask about our order because we had seen multiple tables who came after us (with different servers) get their food and even leave before we got our food. If a restaurant is busy, I am very understanding of a wait time, however they were only seating about 1/3 of the restaurant, and even then, the part they were seating wasn’t even full. I noticed that they had a lot of regulars, which to me, would normally be a good thing, however I noticed that the servers were much more attentive to them than the people that may just be stopping in for a quick meal. To any POC, people part of the lgbtq+, or just anyone who isn’t cis and white passing: beware...

A friend & myself stopped in to Norma's Restaurant for breakfast. The restaurant is quite large, very nicely decorated and laid out in a way that even if full of diners, conversation would be possible.

We were promptly greeted and seated at a table beside a window with a water view, surely to be quite beautiful most of the year. The wait staff all had friendly, smiling faces and several patrons were obviously regulars, always good indication the food will be good.

My friend had a bacon omelette with potatoes side. I chose pancakes & bacon! My friend said he was impressed with his omelette. His potatoes were golden brown and again he was impressed. My pancakes were generous in portion, nice and fluffy and sitting lightly on the stomach. As for the bacon I was underwhelmed as it wasn't crispy and was very fatty, but not to the point of a full star deducted.

I chose to give Norma's Restaurant five stars because the very good far outweighed the underwhelming bacon. If possible I would have assigned four and...

Use to be a lot better service back then! You walk in the old lady at the counter doesn't even tell you to follower her she just grabs menus and starts walking no talking at all! The portion size is terrible they give u a juice with your meal but it's the size of a shot! The employees aren't very pleasant I asked for a napkin because there wasn't one at the table and the girl rolled her eyes at me like sorry but your job isn't that hard to get one napkin! The ketchup bottle was a old bottle re-use too many times like throw that away please! But last and not least it's a cash only place but the only sign that said that was a tiny white paper on the cash register like you need to be telling people this and I could have just walked out without paying because about 5 people walked past me not asking me if I was ready to pay so I was just standing there like a fool when after awhile someone finally let us pay! Not going back there...
