I may as well have just thrown away $18. This is the first Vietnamese restaurant I've tried now that I'm back in Michigan I am not happy at all.
I lived in San Francisco for 12 years and I KNOW I've been spoiled when it comes to Asian food. But this?
I wanted to treat myself and so I looked in the area and found this restaurant. 4+ stars. I was excited because I missed having the pork chop plate that I was so accustomed to back in SF. I ordered at the counter and a tiny, excitable woman told me they didn't have spring rolls which I thought was weird because they're on the menu . Fine. (Later I asked one of the young employees and they said that they do have spring rolls on the weekends only)
I ordered a couple of eggrolls because the pork chop dish was going to take about a half hour. She brought the egg rolls and they were fine. They were small.
Normally, when I would order a pork chop, I would get two slices of pork chop that had been tenderized with a mallet and marinated for days. They were delicious. I could often simply eat them with my chopsticks because they were so tender. They were served with rice, tomatoes, and cucumbers, fresh basil and sometimes mint, and fish sauce.
When I received this plate, there was a fried egg on it, the pork chop was tough and had no flavor. It wasn't even the correct color.
There was a decent sized mound of rice, but they PEPPERED it! Pepper does not belong on rice with Asian food. That's why there are no pepper shakers on the tables in Asian restaurants. There was a small plastic container, partially filled with some kind of sweet sauce that I believe was honey. Fish sauce has a lovely sweet flavor and a tang to it that suit the pork chop perfectly, but I didn't get to enjoy that because I got honey "sauce" instead. Seriously. Plain honey.
The carrots and tomato were tossed in vinegar. What?
It was flavorless and dry and the rice being peppered, was inedible. I will not come back here and I don't recommend it to anyone else. I'm so disappointed. Now I have to go find another place to eat because I have to get this taste out...
Read moreBAD CUSTOMER SERVICE ! I will never ever go into this restaurant again. First of all the male cashier a young kid was very rude and seemed bothered that my colleague and I were there. We placed our order at the counter and sat and waited only to be under served with an attitude. The noodles in my soup were miniscule and the large Pho soup bowl was only half way filled and the chicken in the soup was just maybe three small cubes. When I complained about the soup and noodles he said " that is all you guys get" So, we went along with that attitude and just brushed it off . My colleague and I left a $5 tip on the table out of courtesy and walked out all happy because although we were under served the soup was good ( my opinion). Well, we left and were about ten feet away from the restaurant in the parking lot when the cashier ran out chasing us and yelling that we had to clean our own table ! Wow, if looks could kill we would be dead ! First of all ,we didn't know because this is our first time there and we left a tip for that very reason, because we thought that our table would be cleaned after our departure, after all when you pay with a credit or debit card they even give you the option to tip, so we saved it for the table and we tipped ! The service was terrible and rude...... I will inform the rest of my airline pilot colleagues not to ever ever come here again . Wow P.S after cleaning our own table , we took...
Read moreThis restaurant is set up to be fast casual, but it is far from fast, and i doubt any employees have worked in a restaurant kitchen before. We were the first customers in on a Sunday, literally waiting for them to unlock the door, and immediately ordered 2 pho and 1 banh mì. It took 45 minutes to receive the food, which is ridiculous because pho should only take about a minute to prepare (noodles + meat + broth + garnish). On a more recent visit, mid week, mid afternoon, we ordered 3 pho and proceeded to wait 25 minutes. In that time only 1 other customer's food came out. I asked the employee at the counter (who was wearing flip flops and playing a game on his iPad) how much longer on the food, so he went to get the cook. The cook said it would be at least another 15 minutes, so I asked why simple pho would take so long, he said they boil the broth for each bowl from scratch (read: cold). I was able to see the kitchen and they had many small saucepans going and no large stock pot like you would typically see at other pho or Ramen shops. The food does taste good, but it's clear the owners do not know how to run a...
