The air hung heavy with the scent of frying oil and seasoned flour, a siren song luring me into Nu Wave Chicken and Fish. This wasn't some fancy bistro with pretentious plates and overpriced wine. This was the real deal, a no-frills joint where the fryer was king and the chicken reigned supreme. I ordered the two-piece with fries, a classic for a reason. The chicken arrived, golden brown and glistening, a testament to the cook's mastery of the deep fryer. The skin crackled with a satisfying crunch, giving way to juicy, well-seasoned meat. It wasn't fancy, but damn, it was good. The fries, piled high on the side, were the perfect accompaniment – crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and generously salted. I squeezed a lemon wedge over the chicken, the tartness cutting through the richness of the fried batter. This wasn't the kind of place you'd find in a guidebook. No, this was a local haunt, a place where the regulars knew to ask for extra crispy wings and the sweet tea flowed like wine. It was honest food, made with care and served without pretense. Nu Wave Chicken and Fish might not be a culinary destination, but it was a damn good place to get a plate of fried chicken. And sometimes, that's all you...
Read moreThis was my second an last time at the Ypsilanti location. On my first visor I noticed that the cashier would ask the customers if they wanted their coleslaw and their pop. I thought she was just trying to make extra sales. No problem with that. It was obvious that she was training and there was another man near her who was encouraging her and saying she was doing a great job. On my 2nd visit, my daughter placed an order, I picked it up. Sane cashier. She asked if I wanted my coleslaw that came with the food that was ordered and the pop. She asked about condiments, ranch dressing was ordered and a extra charge was added to the bill for it. I didn't know that Pop was included, so I said no to the pop and was told they were all out of ranch dressing. When I got home there was nothing on their menu that stated their was an extra charge for condiments. So what was the extra $2 for? I...
Read moreWent here yesterday, ordered my food online at 7:30, and got my confirmation email that my order would be ready at 7:42. I arrived at 7:50 and he told me my order wasn't ready. The guy told me I should call instead if I wanted to get my food faster. As I'm sitting there, I'm seeing customers coming in saying they ordered online and pick up their food. Mind you, the guy, always asked for the phone number first, but he just asked for my name. Finally, at 8:15, I told him I wanted to cancel my order since I've been sitting there for 30 minutes, and then they realized my order had been sitting there the whole time under my email name. He apologizes and offers me something sweet but doesn't mention anything about my cold food, then I get home, and some of my chicken...
