Mash Bar — Restaurant in Ypsilanti

We wanted to love this place as we are big Thompson and Co fans, but we unfortunately had a very bad experience here. We ordered aperol spritz for two but then realized it was on tap? Seemed strange but we went with it anyhow, and it was unfortunately the worst tasting cocktail/aperol spritz I’ve ever had. We could not force ourselves to drink it even though we wanted to be polite. The staff was friendly, but saw that we clearly weren’t fans of the drink and didn’t offer to get us anything else which seemed strange. We decided to stay and just order beers instead, but something must have been off with the tap because the beer that we got was also un-drinkable and tasted stale. I’ve never had this happen before so we weren’t sure what to do and didn’t want to come across as rude, so we just asked for the check and left. Very bizarre experience and we sadly won’t be returning anytime soon. Super sad to spend 40 dollars and not even be able to drink either of our drinks and very strange because I’ve never experienced that in any bar or dining establishment. Giving 2 stars because the place has a good atmosphere/vibe and the bartenders did seem friendly, even if they didn’t try to make our experience better when we clearly had issues with our drinks. Wonderful service is this place's specialty! They are hospitable and courteous. We had an issue with our charcuterie board; our board had noticably smaller portions than other boards. When we addressed this with the staff, they noticed the issue, and swiftly worked to resolve it, no questions asked. We were given a second charcuterie board free of charge, with more than ample portions. Aubry was our server and checked in regularly, and ensured our satisfaction. Will served us drinks at the bar, and was incredibly friendly and quick with service. It's clear this staff are passionate about this place, and aim to please. The food was wonderful and fresh, the music was nuanced and bright, the drinks were elegant and fairly priced, the atmosphere was inviting and cozy. Very disorganized. I was told that there would be a costume contest. For contests you are usually asked to stand in a line where people actually look at your costume and judge it. I was also told that the staff would look at the costumes and that patrons would judge the costume as well. I was also told that the judging would start at 10 pm. Nothing happened at 10 pm. In addition, nobody asked me to stand in line with other costumed people. I just saw some employees walking around with these starred wands. What was that? Were they in judging fairy mode? Why didn't they ask anybody to stand up? Lastly, two patrons fell on top of the table next to me, which almost caused some of my things to topple. At that point, I had enough. I wanted to stay afterwards and order drinks or food..but not when the place is crashing...
