Café Gourmand is the best place for brunch that I have been to in Montevideo. It is small and unassuming - you could easily walk past it several times and not know you'd missed it. The streetfront sign is tiny, so keep an eye out! There are a few tables on the street, Parisian style, although the street frontage is, to be honest, not particularly scenic. Also, there are a few tables across the street. Inside, there are another 7-8 tables, so if you are going in a large group, I suggest calling ahead.
What sets the restaurant apart is undoubtedly the food, which is absolutely excellent! I had the brunch menu (650 pesos), which comes with fresh bread, eggs Benedict, a pastry and yoghurt or fruit sald, plus coffee or tea and a cold drink (I had fresh-squeezed orange juice). I ordered my eggs with gravlax, which was homemade and, frankly, superlative. The tomatoes were full of flavor (I have no idea where they are from, but they were delicious). However, what makes eggs Benedict is the hollandaise, which was pretty close to perfect in my experience. Nicely flavored and perfect consistency. The croissant I had was flaky and authentic - something hard to find in town. Coffee is roasted fresh on premises. Everything is excellent!
Finally, the staff deserves special mention. Without question, they are the friendliest waitresses in town! Service is outstanding...

The egg Benedict with salmon is a tasty, blend of savory and creamy, while the avocado croissant is great options for vegetarian and have option to add egg if you want.
For those with a sweet tooth, the carrot cake is simply divine, moist, and topped with sour cream. Each dish is crafted with care, making Café Gourmand a must-visit for anyone looking for a satisfying evening or a slow morning with great brunch date in a...
Read moreAs gastro on brunch and light lunch or breakfast as it can get. Amazing personnel and lovely simple space in a nice neighbourhood. Prices correct for the experience you get. Flavours simply exactly as you would expect them to be (and that's a big compliment) and sometimes even better. Macaron could be a bit crunchier but ok you are not with a Parisian maitre des macarons. Overall bravo to the team đ keep it up! Shame that you have so lovely origin coffees and I couldn't taste them because of how busy you guys were! đ Advice: come early in the morning when it's quieter and they ll have the V60...
