UPDATED: returned here on 14 March 2025 after the business took the time to make a considered response.
Firstly we arrived just after 11am, and were seated at 11.30am. On this occasion, the team member was not outside coordinating queues, rather you had to enter inside to obtain your waiting ticket.
It appears they also accommodate tour groups as a group of around 20 entered and were almost immediately seated at an alternate level.
The bathroom appears to have been renovated since our last visit, though it always had a line and a restaurant of this size could do with additional facilities though it appears they are limited in space as dining takes priority.
To cover our bases and give a rounded review we ordered more dishes than usual - this time we had An Thôi Morning Glory, Shrimp in Garlic Sauce, Scallops with scallions & peanuts and Mi Quang
We thought the garlic shrimp came with head and tail only but it was completely in the shell. The messy job of peeling the prawns was managed with gloves provided, the garlic sauce and shrimp themselves being quite sweet but of a decent size for the price of 249k with 7 prawns served in the dish.
As Australians we are used to much larger scallops, the ones served here were tiny. We preferred this scallop dish over the grilled scallops with cheese.
Mi Quang whilst being almost 3 times the price of that out in the street was also more than double the size with ample meat. The team accommodated substitution of prawn for chicken and the noodle dish had a nice broth with huge serving of salad.
The An Thôi Morning Glory was our favourite dish with unique spicy sauce that perfectly complemented the morning glory and pork mince with a subtle spicy punch.
Staff again were prompt, approachable and friendly. They arranged parking for our motorbike at the space of the building next door and we noticed they even appeared to pay the vendor for the convenience and did not seek any funds from us. They also personally moved our bike into the space, navigating the traffic and line of people on the footpath to its secure location.
It should be noted, this restaurant encourages reviews in exchange for a free Mango Smoothie. We have never subscribed to this or received anything for our reviews. This could explain the significant number of reviews this restaurant has.
Again this restaurant was very busy servicing many tourists in the area with its traditional dishes showcasing the fresh local produce from Da Nang.
Visit December 2024:
We left a little miffed at how this restaurant gets such rave reviews and awarded continual Michelin Bib Gourmand. Perhaps we simply tried all the wrong dishes, and to be fair our expectations were high but both agreed that this has been our least favourite meal in Da Nang.
It should be noted that the staff are exceptional here. From managing the large queue out the front, to the table serivce and finalising your bill the whole team are wonderful, attentive and go above and beyond.
We ordered Grilled Scallops, Spicy Pho, Spring Rolls & Morning Glory. One of our dishes arrived with items we weren’t expecting even though we enquired about its ingredients. A team member quickly restored our faith and had the dish immediately replaced, apologising for the miscommunication. All of the meals were ok, but nothing we would return for.
We waited approximately 15-20 minutes in the early evening for a table, they provide complimentary water outside as you wait. There are bathroom amenities inside for diners nestled amongst the staff kitchen storage area and aren’t the cleanest. We walked from our hotel, but it looks very congested of you were to try find parking as it’s directly beside the market on...
Read moreMy recent visit to An Thôi was a mixed bag of delightful flavors and a frustrating wait. If you’re craving authentic Vietnamese cuisine, this spot delivers, but be prepared for a potential wait that might test your patience. We arrived eager to try their offerings but were met with a 45-minute wait for a table, which was a significant downside. The bustling atmosphere hinted at the restaurant’s popularity, but the long delay left us restless. If I have to endure that kind of wait again, I’m not sure I’d return. Once seated, the experience improved dramatically. The service was fast, with staff moving efficiently to get our orders out promptly. The menu, while not that extensive, offered a solid selection of Vietnamese classics, and every dish we tried was a hit. We ordered Mì Quảng, egg rolls, rice with morning glory, and grilled scallops, and all dishes were equally good. The Mì Quảng was fragrant and perfectly balanced, with just the right mix of herbs and textures. The egg rolls were crispy and flavorful, while the rice with morning glory was a fresh, comforting side. The grilled scallops, succulent and lightly charred, were a standout, bursting with coastal flavors. The food quality was undeniably impressive, and the quick service once seated helped redeem the experience. However, the limited menu might leave those seeking variety wanting more, and the initial wait was a major drawback. At a reasonable price point [specific cost, if known, or omit], An Thới is worth a visit for its delicious, well-executed dishes—if you’re willing to gamble on...
Read moreThis is the most anticipated restaurant in my trip to Vietnam. I visited to order and eat by delivery, and eat more delicious food in the store, but the store had a big problem. A male server did something unpleasant for no reason. When he misordered one menu and received the food, he smiled, made eye contact, and observed us. Next, he provided gloves to peel the shrimp on the garlic butter shrimp menu, and observed them to peel the shrimp. At first, I thought it was a coincidence that I kept making eye contact, but after learning from another table that the restaurant was peeling shrimp, I filed a claim with Casher, who looked like a female manager, and restored the service. However, the shrimp skin could not be recovered by the male server of behavior, which I already had peeled and the worst experience was not sure why. The female manager seemed to have said the wrong thing to the man in Vietnamese, but he pretended not to know. He said 'Thank you' when we left the store. Only the female manager kept apologizing to us. I don't know what he hated, tourists, Koreans, or our couple, and I don't know if it was just unprovoked. However, having this experience at Da Nang's landmark restaurant is absolutely terrifying. It was the worst restaurant of my life. And in the restaurant, bugs from wooden bowls were crawling on the table. The table in front of the restaurant's door is so close to the person you're waiting for, sitting in the chair behind you that you get kicked and have an...
