First of all this is Tex Mex, not Mexican, and by far the worst tacos I ever had. Had the chicken and pork tacos; both came on flour tortillas (much prefer corn and there's a great supplier of corn tortillas in Da Nang, 1 street away actually), both had a salsa made with tomatoes that were too ripe, raw cabbage (so much better if pickled) and cold shredded cheese. The pork was (or at least seemed) braised and had some flavour, were it served in a corn tortilla with just onions and cilantro it might have been a 3 star. The chicken taco was made with a precooked chicken breast that had very little, if any seasoning, chopped into cubes. Tasteless and dry. The juice from the meat (pork) and salsa made the base of the tortillas wet, and since it's a giant taco (huge for the price, I'll give them that) they both deteriorated after the first couple of bites. I've eaten hundreds of tacos all over the world, it's one of my favourite things to eat and I'm telling you, these were the worst I ever had. If you live here then order some corn tortillas, buy some chicken, paprika, cumin, garlic powder and dried oregano, onions, tomatoes, lime, cilantro and an avocado and you'll make tacos 100 times better than this even on the first try. These other reviews have to be from friends of the owners or from people who have no clue about Mexican food. I'm not a purist by any means, there's a place in Hanoi that does the best burrito (Tex Mex) I've ever had and another place that does a cha cá taco (Viet Mex) and it's truly amazing, this was just very bland, basic food and and in my opinion an insult to Mexican cuisine. Even an Old El Paso taco kit with seasoning mix, tortillas and salsa is much better than this! I apologize to the owners but I couldn't let this place have a 4.3 star rating, I was excited to come here it was such a let down, and want to save other taco lovers from the disappointment. My advice is get some corn tortillas, make a proper salsa, cut and season your chicken before cooking it, pickle your cabbage and drop the cheese. Do this and you can flip this around. If you do I will come eat here a couple of times a week, if you don't there's a solid chance this place will close the second real tacos are available in An Thuong, which surely won't be long. Oh another thing, the garlic and green chili salsa on the table was actually quite nice, problem however is that it had just been pulled out of the refrigerator and was so cold it was almost frozen... Sigh. I just saw that this place has another, bigger restaurant in Hoi An with great reviews there too. I really don't get it, there's another taco joint in Hoi An and it's so much better than this, not...
Read moreStaff was friendly and my order came quick, but those are the only positive things I can say about my experience. I ordered a quesadilla to go as I had planned to eat it later and what I got was not what I expected. No ingredients were listed on the menu for it and I knew not to expect any meat since it would be specified if it had it, but I assumed that there would at least be cheese and maybe some veggies inside because those are basic ingredients for any quesadilla, but it ended up being literally just a fried tortilla, as you can see in the picture. Now I don't know if the owner has never seen a quesadilla before or if this was just a one-off, but I have never been so disappointed in my life as I did upon opening that takeout box and seeing what was given to me. It was definitely not worth the 40k charged for it and if it is any indication of what the rest of the food is like at this place, then I definitely recommend to steer clear of it. If you're looking for really good Mexican food in Da Nang, I would definitely recommend you go to Tacos Da Nang. The quality of their food is outstanding and the staff is also really friendly. No harm at all meant to the owner of Felina Cantina with this review, but this was unacceptable and they have a lot to improve on if they want to serve decent...
Read moreIt isn't very often that you go to a restaurant and experience something truly unique and new.
We stopped in here after a walk along the beach in the evening. It's not much to look at first glance. The waiter quickly powered up the fans and pointed them at our table.
We ordered the first the Quesadillas and we both ordered Veggie Tacos and of course some drinks.
Authentic and traditional are very interesting words when it comes to Mexican foods. In my experience there is a huge variety between different styles, indeed the only consistency comes from franchised prepared for the masses chains.
Here is the interesting thing about this restaurant. It's lacking some of the traditional ingredients. I imagine things like the beans are hard to come by here.
You can either look at this like it's not authentic or you can flip the marketing on this and describe it as Vietnamese-Mexican fusion.
The dishes are flavourful and unique. If you were to put this in Australia you would have hipsters queued around the block.
This place is true to the origins of Mexican food if not all the ingredients. Mexican was food for workers, food based on available ingredients.
Do yourself a favour and drop into this restaurant while you're in Da Nang. Enjoy something you won't be able to get...
