Fune Sushi:

Service: Unfortunately the lady who served me wasn’t overly welcoming or friendly, but the food was served very fast. Rating: 3/5

Note: It doesn’t take a lot to make your guests feel welcome. A smile and a welcome or hello goes a long way. It wouldn’t take a lot to achieve 5/5

Atmosphere: For me the decor was very basic and didn’t really create the ambiance I was expecting or I’d experienced in other Japanese restaurants in Da Nang. I was also surprised they didn’t have any counter seating. All the seats were padded and comfortable, which was good. There was no music. To keep you cool they had some air conditioning and a fan. Rating: 3/5

Note: If they played some music, especially Japanese, and updated the decor (More of a Japanese vibe), it could easily be a 5/5.

The second time I went there and it was open. Here are some suggestions to improve the place:

First impression (atmosphere): The place needs to get rid of odour and more lights.

It would be nice to have some background music.

I requested for mosquito repellents but it was unavailable.

Food: I ordered 5 items: Miso soup, green beans, soda, dumplings, chicken curry

The fried chicken in the curry was the best one I had. However, the curry lacks thickness ( starch powder needed) as it looked different from the picture. I ordered it because of the image with carrots and it ended up with lots of onions.

The dumplings would have been perfect if more time were given on the frying pan as the inside tasted less warm whereas the outside is too soft, lacking the crispiness and softness textures both combined.

Soda water was provided with a glass but some ice cube would have been perfect.

I might revisit to try...

Google has failed us! Choosing a sushi restaurant in a backpacker area is dangerous business!

Ordered a combo which had a fairly decent price but the wasabi presented was a disaster and a sad sight of the dryers wasabi I’ve ever seen (-1 point).

Biting into the nigiri, it was quite clear that the type of rice was not appropriate (not Japonica for example) and the vinegar content was almost undetectable (-1 point).

Soy sauce used is not appropriate for the subject matter (blacker than my heart on a bad day, -1 point).

Cuts of fish are also equally disappointing (-1 point).

In the defence of the restaurant, the maki (rolls) were decent and if I was only seeking this type of nourishment (i.e. wanted to fill my gullet with cheap fare), I might go here (+1 point).

Overall, calling this a top rated place is like calling McDonalds a top rated place.

Would I come back? Probably not unless...
