I'm a bit undecided on how to rate Scallywags Bar & Grill. As for a bar, I would give it a 4-star rating. Especially if you're a sports fan (which I'm not) and even more so if you're into Aussie sports. They provide several TV monitors indoors and a projector screen in their outside section. However, this is not always turned on (though I'm sure they would, upon request?). They offer bar seating as well as other seating inside (bar stools with tables), and the staff are extremely friendly. They also provide outdoors seating (front and along the side...where the projector screen is located) with a mixture of bar stools and tables, and normal chairs/bench seats with tables (most of the seats are cushioned). Their alcoholic beverage selections are ample (wine, spirits, cocktails, ciders & tap and bottled beers), and prices are reasonably ok. Free WiFi is also provided. That being said, as for a grill (food provider), I struggle to give it three stars. They have an OK selection upon their menu, but prices are a little bit high for what you receive (portion and quality). One definite positive are the chips (fries)....crunchy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, and tasty. I've eaten here a few times before offering this review and tried a few of their "pub" dishes; Pepper Meat Pie = After travelling all around SE Asia, and being an Aussie, I couldn't resist ordering a Meat Pie (I haven't seen one in a long time...though I know they're available in limited places). This was just OK. It was microwaved (I knew before ordering), but it was surprisingly crispy-ish. Overall, it was lacking any real pepper taste (maybe they gave me the wrong pie??) and in my opinion, just a little better than a good quality frozen buy that you could buy in most Australian supermarkets. Meat Lovers Pizza = very average and lacking a good range (and quality) of meats and the cheese was very bland/tasteless....but this is the standard all through SE Asia from my limited experience, as I tend to avoid Pizzas most of the time (ie. They're always disappointing in comparison to those found in most Western countries). One positive is that the base and crust were crispy and cooked properly. Loaded Fries = quite nice (notwithstanding the bland/tasteless cheese) and a good portion size. Smash Cheeseburger = very ordinary, and the patty is NOT a smashed style and was a bit tasteless and a little on the "rubbery" side. The menu boasts; cheese...and lots of it??? My burger was presented with one slice of cheese. Hardly "lots of it", and the flavour was hardly noticeable. A very disappointing burger for the price (145K)....definitely not recommended. Biggs Breakfast = OK.... only one slice of bacon, which was average in taste (and a bit tough). Hash browns could've been cooked longer (or maybe a better quality), and there was only one packet of butter provided for the toast (2x slices cut in half). I ordered fried eggs (you have a choice of style), which were very nice. The 1x sausage was nice, too. I used Scallywags as it is located just across the road from my accommodation and was very convenient due to the rain...if I was elsewhere, I probably wouldn't return. I would recommend Scallywags to those who wish to drink and watch Aussie sports, but not too eat there (unless the alcohol has lowered you inhibitions or...

Read moreThe staff here are top notch. Very kind and genuine, especially Minh. Good happy hour. The food is very tasty. Prices aren’t bad at all. Great flavor and texture. As a solo traveler, I find myself in these establishments now and again to have casual conversation. While most everyone in here that I talked to were polite and cordial, there seems to be a daily hive of entitled regulars who often glare at people they don’t recognize. I can’t put that on the staff or establishment. It’s just something bothersome at times. If you’re in a pub, be kind and say hello. It’s where the name comes from(public house). If you don’t enjoy others, stay at home. The staff and owners here are again, a delight to be around. I wish the patrons would match their attitude but that’s certainly not the...
