We went 2 days/1 night Halong Bay with Unicharm (subsidiary of Vega?). Except coming into and out of Halong Bay, we were pretty much the only cruise ship around. They have a route that isn't packed with tourists and the ship caters to smaller groups (~30 ppl max). The views were absolutely amazing, even if it rained - it was worth it! The tour included many activities and the guide & staff were the definition of "great customer service".
The ship: very clean, no wear/looks new, super comfortable. We took the cheaper cabins on the lower deck and we weren't disappointed. There's no balcony but you can still open the door for a beautiful view from your room.
The activities/itinerary: we sailed during the day and anchored at night, through secluded areas, rarely seeing other cruise ships. On the first day we went kayaking for 2hrs (physical activity), visiting floating villages and a lagoon (we didn't swim, but had the option). In the evening there was a 'spring roll' cooking class and, after, dinner we tried squid fishing. Early next morning we sailed to Cat Ba national park and cycled (physical activity) through some amazing natural areas (2 hrs). Then brunch, and back to the port at noon.
The food: great!! We kept coming back for seconds. Fresh seafood grill for dinner (chicken/pork also available), tasty food each time, lots of seafood in general. Loved it.
The guide & staff: we had Mr Tiger as our guide, who was very friendly, happy to explain things and took the time to sit with every group and repeat the itinerary/activities, making sure we got all the info. The Unicharm staff deserves a round of applause for the impeccable customer service and attention to details. They were always helpful, smiling, and keeping the ship in perfect order...
Read moreI stayed here with my 2 friends and we booked 2 rooms. We also opted to avail of their bus service from their travel agency office in the Old Quarter to the resort. The room I booked had 2 single beds but since I was staying by myself and my 2 friends in the other room, they gave me a room with a queen bed which was more spacious. The room was clean, well-maintained, had toiletries, cable tv, and a mini bar. The shared balcony had a table and a view overlooking their pool and bar. Bed was big and sheets were fairly clean. They cleaned the room everyday. Location was good as it was on the main road and also near Cat Co 1 beach. The front desk staff were friendly and could speak English fairly well. Food at their restaurant was good and price was okay as well. Two things they could improve on: Breakfast buffet had almost the same food everyday and could get quite tiring if you are staying there for a few days. Restaurant staff were friendly but some could not speak/understand english well which resulted in misunderstandings with some of our orders. Overall, it was a great, relaxing stay and I really...
Read moreThis was an amazing experience! It was well planned and our guide (Binh) was very friendly and enthusiastic and managed to learn every person in the tour group’s name.
We did the 2 days 1 night trip, which we worried might be too packed full of activities. Instead, we found that the itinerary was actually very well balanced between activities and time relaxing on the boat.
The food was great with very good vegetarian options. The cabins were clean and very comfortable. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was cheerful the whole time.
The kayaking was a fun two hour trip, leading to a beautiful lagoon where we could swim if we wanted. The other main activity was the cycling which took us around the coastline of a stunning island and then through a little village. We stopped at a cafe where you could try local rice wine or have a fish foot massage in which the fish nibble your feet!
Thoroughly recommended,...
