Decent Korean spot with room for improvement
Tried out Ariang in District 1 – overall, it was a decent experience. The restaurant is run by Koreans, so you do get that authentic Korean vibe, especially in the decor. They also have private VIP rooms, which is a nice touch.
Food-wise, it’s okay – similar pricing to other Korean BBQ places in the area (around 300–400k VND per person if you go in a group of 6–8). Flavors were fine, but nothing really stood out. One small letdown was the banchan – they didn’t refill unless you asked, which felt a bit passive for a Korean BBQ place.
Service was friendly though – staff were sweet and helpful. One thing that could definitely be improved is the ventilation between rooms. The partitions aren’t sealed well, so if someone’s grilling in the next room, you’ll probably get a bit of smoke.
Overall: a good place if you’re looking for a Korean BBQ dinner with friends or colleagues, but there’s room to improve in both service flow and...
Read moreLegit Korean barbecue joint in the heart of Saigon. Arirang is located a short walk away from the Caravelle Hotel in a Korean plaza. Having lived in Los Angeles and eaten at the best Korean BBQ joints in Koreatown (which are IMO even better than the few I've tried in Seoul), I didn't have high expectations for Korean cuisine in Saigon.
I was surprised by the quality and variety at Arirang. The meat quality was great, and a waiter was always on hand to grill it for you. Great and attentive service as the waiters came around often for refills and requests. We had to only push the call button once. Chadol brisket was delicious, along with the kalbi. The meat isn't heavily marinated, which I prefer, as it allows you to control the salt, oil, and sauce level with small dipping plates. Prices were very reasonable for the quality. Highly...
Read moreArirang has a lot of "restaurant taste" on every dish including banchan which korean local restaurant pursue in Korea. Some might know what I intend to say about. They have a great view along saigon river. I have to say that they had descent kimchi, very fresh and not sour at all, kicking spice taste of red pepper. If you like fresh kimchi, go for it and this is the right place. I tried janchikuksu(Korean thin noodle soup with anchovy base) and it was good enough. Because this food is hard to find in Vietnam. I will visit for this noodle soup. Personally I dont like kimchigeon(korean style kimchi pancake) here and we left most. They have a good sundoobu jjigae(korean tofu soup). It is okay...
