One of my all-time favorite breakfast spots is a hidden gem that serves up a sizzling delight. The star of the show here is a hearty combo of beef, fish in tomato sauce, pâté, eggs, and a fresh veggie platter with onions and salad, all accompanied by crusty bread and a bowl of pre-mixed soy sauce. My go-to order is always the beef, pâté, and eggs.
The magic happens in a scorching hot pan where the ingredients are added in this mouth-watering sequence: a splash of cooking oil, marinated beef, a whole egg, and finally, a generous dollop of pâté. The beef is seared to perfection, flipped just once or twice to keep it rare, while the egg remains delightfully runny until you decide to cook it to your liking by flipping it in the hot pan. The pâté melts into the beef, creating a rich, savory topping.
When the dish arrives at your table, the oil is still sizzling, and you might need to dodge a few splatters—hence the name “bò né” (dodging beef). For the best experience, I like to toss some raw onions into the hot pan to let them cook slowly with the beef, then pour half of the pre-mixed soy sauce over the salad and tomatoes, and the other half into the pan. The result is a symphony of flavors and textures that’s simply irresistible.
Review: The beef is tender and juicy, the eggs can be cooked to your preference, and the bread, though standard-sized, is perfect for soaking up all the delicious juices—you might even want to order an extra loaf. The pâté, warmed by the beef, is a creamy, flavorful addition, and the sweet soy sauce ties everything together beautifully.
Pro Tip: Be prepared for a smoky experience! The cooking process generates a lot of smoke, so you might leave with a bit of a kitchen aroma. If you’re not keen on starting your day smelling like a chef, bring a change of clothes. The smoke can also be a bit much if you’re sitting close to the cooking area, but it’s all part of the charm. The lively atmosphere and the chance to mingle with locals make it all worthwhile.
I’ve captured some photos and a short video (with music) to give you a taste of the experience—just remember to keep...
Read moreCame here for breakfast at 0830hrs on Saturday. It was so pack perhaps due to school holidays or maybe it's always like this because it's so good!
There were a few groups of ppl waiting to go in but we waited less than a minute because the staff was quick to allocate seats and the customers were quick to leave once done. Seating is cramped and you'll be sharing a table with another group. I didn't mind that at all but just want to point that out for those that are not in favour of this.
Thankfully they gave us English menus as they could see we were foreigners. We ordered the beef with egg and white ice coffee. Once ordered they gave us a banh mi each and a salad dish to share (consist of onion, lime and lettuce). We found out later that we'll only be charged for them if we eat them.
Our food and drinks came less than 3 mins of ordering. The coffee was so good, the right amount of sweetness, was strong and thick. The hot plate arrived sizzling so we quickly threw in the onions and lettuce, throw in the sweet sauce at this time too if you want to and flip the egg if you don't want a runny yolk. I added the chilli paste provided for a little kick, it was spicy so a dab was enough for me.
The service, while fast and in a rush, was very friendly, the staff were helpful and always smiling. There are 3 huge jars of preserved snakes inside the shop so sit with your back to them if you're not a fan or sit outside.
Overall we love the food and will be back. Luckily for us, our Airbnb is just a 5...

The moment you sit down, you’ll hear the sound of sizzling skillets — that classic “né” sound that makes your stomach growl before the food even arrives. The dish comes out bubbling hot on a cast-iron plate: tender slices of beef, a perfectly fried egg with a soft yolk, rich pâté, onions, and sometimes sausage — all swimming in a delicious savory sauce. The baguette (bánh mì) on the side is warm and crispy, perfect for soaking up every bit of that sauce. It’s simple, comforting, and full of flavor. What I love most is the balance — the beef is nicely marinated, the sauce isn’t too salty, and the egg ties everything together. You can tell it’s a local favorite because the tables fill up fast, especially in the morning. The atmosphere is casual and lively, nothing fancy — just good food, friendly staff, and the smell of sizzling beef in the air. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion size, and service is quick. If you want a true Vietnamese breakfast experience that’s both satisfying and full of character, Bò Né Thanh Tuyến is a must-try. Don’t forget to grab extra bread — you’ll want it...
