Stoker Woodfired Grill & Bar - Thao Dien — Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

I recently visited Stokers in Thao Dien with a small group to celebrate a birthday and was wowed by the overall experience. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcomed by the friendly staff and the layout is sleek and modern with its open kitchen. Our server Trình was exceptional, prompt and professional. She walked our table through some of the menu and actively suggested items she thought we should try. We took her recommendations and started with a bone marrow that is fire roasted and it’s served with morcilla crumble’s and a wasabi mojo that complements all of the elements of the dish. We also dived into an order of wagyu tartare which was phenomenal, we had a kingfish carpaccio with sweet potato and we shared a grilled tiger prawn & avocado salad. For our entrée’s, we ordered the porterhouse (650g) which is dry aged for 21 days in-house as well as a 350g Ribeye grilled medium, topped with foie gras and served with a red wine reduction. Both steaks were perfect and filling! Our sides included broccolini with brown butter, charred sweet corn, and the truffle fries. Trình also suggested a bottle of the Cape Barren Shiraz to pair with our steak’s. The wine was a perfect match with notes of black plums and cherries. One of the barometers I use to rate a restaurant is whether or not the manager does a table visit. The house manager (Lộc) checked with our table about few bites into our entrées to make certain we were satisfied. Went to this restaurant because of its reviews, nice atmosphere, good service. We ordered a bunch of food and drinks! One thing the manager or owner of this restaurant needs to be improved: you should give the right to the bartender or waiters when it comes to their mistakes, which means they should have the right to fix their mistakes instead of asking the customers to accept it when the mistake wasn’t coming from us! My husband and his friend ordered two whiskey cocktail drinks and they brought us not the ones we ordered, instead of bringing it back and fix it they apologized and asked us to take it (of course it been charged) that’s one thing that never happened in the US especially it’s in a fine dining restaurant! I’m working in a restaurant in the US and if I did something wrong then I had the right to throw it away or give it away when it was just a couple of drinks, then fix my mistakes, that’s it! Too bad that in VN the owner would charge them if they make some mistakes like that then they had no choice because of course they didn’t want to charged since the salary wasn’t that good and we understand that!
