DON’T BELIEVE THE GRADING, IT’S BAD BAD BAD BAD: YOU WILL PAY FOR THE VIEW, NOT FOR GOOD SUSHI.
First let’s speak about the good points: the location and the staff. 1st floor very quiet and comfy.
Now let’s talk about the reason of my review: THE FOOD. My wife and I are sushi lovers, we already tried several sushis places all around the city. And this is by far THE WORST experience when it comes to sushi.
Over Price given the fact that we are une Vietnam (more expensive than a regular Sushi joint in Europe).
The sushies taste below average, with tasteless fish and rice.
3)THE OKONOMIYAKI 😐 or should I call it the tasteless cold/undercook (I thought YAKI meant cooked) pancake drowned under a sea of mayonnaise. I suspect it to be frozen and not fresh since it was so bad.
4)The manager reaction: I ate half of it with my wife (1 and a half pieces each), just to assure myself that I wasn’t unlucky with a bad section. Then I notified the staff that acted very professionally and told me that they would notify the manager while apologizing multiple time.
After a few minutes and several explanations to different members of the staff about what was the problem, a girl came to me and told me that “since we had eaten half of it the manager says that we have to pay it, and that if we weren’t happy with it we should have complained after the first piece (remember, we had 1.5 pieces each...). I said okey since I didn’t wanted to argue. So Highly unprofessional from the manager, as she didn’t even took the time to tell us him/herself.
Oh and did I tell you that I was so disgusted that I left without even getting everything I ordered? They offered us to take it away (some spicy rolls). What a wonderful surprise to finish the evening: A HAIR OR WHATEVER THIS IS ON IT.
BOTTOM LINE: 1millions 2000 VND (so you get an idea that’s 37€ or 43$) for the the worst sushi meal you can get in Ho Chi Minh given the price.
You better of going to Sushi Ni or order on Go Viet from Thien Du & Sky Sushi, you’ll get a better deal and a...
Read moreHaving lived in Cambodia in the past few years, I can't describe how hard it is to find Kushikatsu. But I found it in Manmaru! Stepping into MANMARU feels like stepping into a cozy izakaya.
Now, onto the star of the show - the kushikatsu! As someone who has had trouble finding this delicacy in Cambodia, stumbling upon it here was nothing short of a culinary miracle. Each skewer was a delight, with succulent meat cocooned in a light, crispy batter and served with a tangy sauce that completes the flavor symphony. It's not just good; it's Osaka-good!
But what truly sets MANMARU apart is its incredible value for money. Despite the high quality of the food and the authentic Japanese dining experience, the prices are surprisingly affordable. It's a testament to the restaurant's commitment to making genuine Japanese cuisine accessible to everyone.
In conclusion, if you're in Ho Chi Minh City and yearning for Kushikatsu (or even affordable delicious Japanese food), do yourself a favor and visit Manmaru. From the delicious kushikatsu to the cozy ambiance and the excellent value for money, it's an experience that will leave your belly full and your heart content. Trust me, it's worth every penny...
Read moreLocated on the corner near Le Van Tam Park, MANMARU OSAKA RESTAURANT is a truly authentic Japanese izakaya-style restaurant. After a long workweek, I decided to bring my entire team here for a Friday night gathering.
Ambiance & Space The restaurant is spacious, with two floors: Ground floor: An open-seating area with a lively, casual atmosphere that feels just like a local izakaya in Japan. Second floor: Tatami-style private rooms, perfect for small group gatherings or business dining.
Food & Drinks We practically ordered everything on the menu—sashimi, sushi rolls, grilled dishes, fried items, seafood, salads, donburi, and more. Every dish was flavorful, but the grilled oysters with mentaiko sauce stood out the most—so fresh and delicious!
And of course, no Japanese izakaya experience is complete without beer! Their Sapporo beer is a must-try, priced at around 30,000 VND per glass. Let’s just say, we drank to our hearts’ content—especially some of my colleagues, who downed a glass every three seconds! (Check the video! 🍻😂)
Pricing & Verdict The average cost per person was around 500,000 - 600,000 VND, which was quite reasonable for the quality...
