my friend introduced this place to me because i simply LOVE carpaccio, so my mom & i decided to try
when we arrived, it was an off-hour to eat around mid-afternoon, so there were only 2 other tables. my mom is vegetarian, so she ordered the vegetarian pizza after a brief look at the menu & i ordered the carpaccio first. i then added a sicilian pizza quickly after
a family of foreigners arrived & ordered their 5 pizzas after us. my carpaccio arrived soon after. i wanted to like the carpaccio but it was quite bland. the only flavour came from the dollops of balsamic vinaigrette (which gave it a slight tang) & what seemed to be truffle tapenade. i wish there was a bit of something that had umami like slices of parmesan to give it some depth because the beef, mushrooms, and olive oil combo was just bland. i still finished it though & had it cleared for the pizzas
our pizzas hadn’t arrived yet, but the family of foreigners got their 5 pizzas served while our table was empty. in that whole time, my mom had nothing to eat when her pizza was ordered before everyone’s, so she was already quite hangry.. she had watched me eat my carpaccio, and it was just extra salt in her wound when she saw the family’s 5 pizzas that were ordered after hers get served to them before hers. she asked to speak to the manager, whom we were told was not present/preoccupied with resting. my mom felt insulted & i was taken aback that the food wasn’t brought in a timely manner, as if we weren’t prioritised because we weren’t foreigners, so it would be okay to make us wait longer when we ordered first. my mom wanted to leave, but we were asked to stay since the pizzas were still being made
in the end, we did get our pizzas, and i actually kinda liked mine. it wasn’t worth the extended wait though.. crust was good & toppings felt balanced, but my mom had lost all appetite & wanted to leave again after 2 slices. they did offer us a discount on our bill, but my mom felt it wasn’t right since she couldn’t speak to the actual manager & that it was too easy for the team to brush our experience under the rug with a discount. we paid full price out of fairness, and we’re sharing our experience as a notice for the team to improve on organisation & fairness to all guests
tldr: good pizzas, can’t recommend carpaccio, team was friendly but service needs improvement so guests don’t...

So after a very poor experience at 4P, 30 meters away (please see my review on them)...we had this place as a 'backup 'plan...which should've been our 1st choice from the start. Definitely suggest searching on your google maps as the discreet doorway can be difficult to find without it. Up a few flights of stairs...ur presented with a beautiful open air roof top restaurant straight out of Italy overlooking the sights below. Firstly...all staff are incredibly friendly...and we had many interactions with the lovely owner. We ordered a diavola pizza and the squid ink seafood risotto. My wife...who is a risotto specialist was sceptical (because most restaurant's overcook) but when they advised 30mins to cook...they advised we eat the pizza first. A great risotto can't be rushed as u will read further.
DIAVOLA pizza...10 out of 10...cooked to perfection...amazing base...minimal but perfect amount of toppings. Delicious.
Squid ink risotto with seafood....AMAZING, AMAZING and AMAZING. Risotto cooked to perfection...still moist as it should be...perfect balance of seafood...delicious flavour.. As I said to the owner...despite our extensive travelling...including Italy...the best we've had.
Price wise..including drinks was only AUD$40 (600K VND)..which considering I've paid 8x as much at a 3 star Michelin restaurant In Italy that wasn't as good...do yourself a favour..skip the google tourist trap of 4 p....and walk a few metres more to avoid lining up and getting...
Read moreHaving been to Naples and eaten real Neapolitan Pizza as well as hand made pasta along the Amalfi coast and Sorrento, i can attest to the authenticity to the textures and flavours of the food at Terraviva. It is really really hard to find a place that can replicate it as close as what I had back when i was travelling through Italy!
Both outlets at D1 and D2 are equally good, but with the main outlet at D2 providing a more authentic Italian buzz while the outlet at D1 providing a more accessible location AND with a nice panoramic view of the Ben Thanh Market area.
How do you know Terraviva serves up great Italian food? - When your good italian buddy expat in HCMC PASSIONATELY recommends you to try. Once i did, there is really no other Pizza shop or chain that cuts close to what Terraviva serves up.
There are many places that serves up good pizzas, but not many serves up great pizzas and great italian fare other than Terraviva.
They even give a great homemade Limoncello digestif (Tasting exactly like the ones I had in Sorrento) after every meal.
How cool is that!
Well done and keep up the great work and...
