Tiệm Cafe Sài Gòn Xưa — Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

I have lived here many years, so I am always surprised when a Vietnamese business overcharges me. It is rare.

I order 2 simple black coffees, no sugar, large size. One is to drink at the cafe, the other I take to go.

The staff member tells me in Vietnamese, thats 50k for a large coffee (100k for two cups). I see that one large coffee is 38k on the menu and know he is overcharging me. The staff member (a young boy) somehow thinks I do not understand the prices because I am a foreigner (even though I spoke to him in Vietnamese). I don't care - it is their loss, not mine.

So, if you are a foreigner, don't go here. The staff will think you are stupid and try to take extra money from you.

The coffee was not even very good. Very watery. Not even worth the real price of 38k - but definitely not worth...

I stopped in mid morning to check out this very new retro-styled cafe and was pretty pleased. The sapoche smoothie I got (without coffee) was excellent but a bit small for the price of 50k. Service was helpful enough and there’s a lot of parking available for motorbikes and there’s a guard. It’s all open air but shady with a bit of a breeze when I visited. Some of the seats are not very comfortable but the ones on the sidewalk...
