I was on the way to my workout and very hungry so I decided to stop by a restaurant that I like in q.4 area. I took a wrong turn and found Tippy. I was hesitate at first because at 7 PM the restaurant is empty . Despite that, I took my risk as I saw good reviews on Google
I was so wrong ... I ordered a vegetarian bean burrito without cheese and a chip and salsa . I admit that I did not read the menu at all before ordering as I was so hungry and I trusted Google Reviews that the restaurant serves good food . The salsa was very watery and lack of cilantro flavor. The chips are too salty, oily and made of wheat ( in the menu there is no indication that the chips are wheat chips instead of corn)
Move on to my burrito which is the real disaster . The Burrito was incredibly soggy that it is impossible to pick up . The filling included refined bean, cabbage, carrot , tomato and onion and the flavor was salty and peppery. All I can taste is soggy dough , salt and pepper . It was so bad that I left half of my burrito uneaten
Majority of Mexican restaurants in Viet Nam taste nothing like Mexican food that serve in authentic Mexican restaurants . However, the dishes I tasted in this restaurant is beyond bad. Gas station and Taco Bell burrito and chips would taste way better than this . Don't even compare this restaurant to Chipotle...I am pretty sure the cook of this restaurant is Vietnamese and his food is just poor imitation of...
Read moreArriving in Tippys and excited by the reviews to have something a bit different to the local food. We sat down and the restaurant was very hot, despite AC on. After ordering drinks we asked them to turn the AC cooler which made no difference. They didn't turn on the floor fans, so we decided to do this ourselves which made a difference. We order 2 burritos, chicken nachos, and 1 chicken taco, along with beers(Huda). The beers were excellent, as they were super cold, and served in ice cold frosted glasses. The food however was mediocre. Both burritos were stuffed full, but very soggy and gloopy. The chicken nachos were overly coated in cheese, so thick you couldn't pull them apart, and the chicken in both the nachos and tacos was very low quality. Our kids shared a free Mexican flan for liking on Instagram, which they enjoyed but was mediocre compared to others I've tried. We spent over the deal of the day amount to get some free tequila shots, which was nice end to the meal. Overall pretty low quality food for the prices and not really worth it. Perhaps if you are really looking for something other than local food and are in the area, then it may be ok, but don't go out of your way to travel here, the food is not...
Read moreThe food is good, but the portions are small and the prices are too high. Every time I want to order from this restaurant, I’m dissuaded the minute I’m reminded of their prices.
A “large” burrito (that’s not even that large btw) shouldn’t cost $12, I’m sorry. Maybe $6, $8 if it has premium ingredients. I’m leaving Saigon, so it doesn’t matter if I come back — but this is my direct and clear message to the management: your prices are unreasonable for frequent return customers. Also they price gouge an obscene amount on the delivery apps compared to their normal menu.
My go-to order is the chicken tippy burrito. It’s very tasty, but comes with no sides and you’ll be hungry still after you finish it. If you’re traveling, you’re ahead to wait until you visit Bangkok where you can get excellent Mexican food with huge portions for a fraction of the price.
Overall, this restaurant is definitely worth a try, but not worth the return business until they make some major adjustments. Every time I cave and decide to suck up the price I’m left with immediate regret as I’m still hungry afterward. Tons of other Mexican restaurants in Saigon have larger portions and are way cheaper, you can give...
