5-Star Brunch Experience at WKND, Ho Chi Minh

What a fantastic way to start the new year! Brunch at WKND was nothing short of exceptional. Despite the bustling New Year’s Day crowd, the host—who also happens to be the co-owner—was incredibly accommodating and ensured we were quickly seated. Reservations are highly recommended, but the service felt seamless and personal, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in.

We opted for a mix of crowd favorites: the Eggs Benedict, "Eggs Your Way," and the Little Human Toast for the kids. Every dish was perfectly executed. The Eggs Benedict was a decadent masterpiece, with a rich hollandaise sauce and perfectly poached eggs. The "Eggs Your Way" offered the flexibility of customization, and they did not disappoint, cooked to perfection with fresh ingredients. The Little Human Toast was a hit with the little ones—simple, tasty, and just the right size for tiny hands.

On the drink side, the Matcha Latte was vibrant and smooth, with just the right balance of matcha and creaminess. The Flat White was equally stellar, boasting rich espresso flavor without being overwhelming. To round off the experience, the fresh juice was a refreshing burst of flavor, a perfect complement to the meal.

The vibe of the place is relaxed yet stylish, and the staff goes above and beyond to ensure a flawless dining experience. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, WKND is the kind of brunch spot you’ll want to return to again and again. Highly recommend—five stars...

Everything was great! The space is super relaxing and cool, even out in the garden area. Staff were really attentive, friendly, smart, and quick.

Now the main part I wanted to talk about: I ordered the smoked salmon with rosti - beautifully presented 10/10. I just wish the avocado was swapped out for some kind of greens. It would’ve been perfect with some blanched spinach or something lighter, because everything else was pretty rich: rosti, avocado, eggs benedict, hollandaise sauce. I couldn’t finish it until I ordered a side of sourdough, and that’s when I finally noticed the tangy lemon/lime flavor in the hollandaise. Before that, it was a bit too heavy to really taste the sauce properly.

Had the chocolate dessert after - a little too sweet for me, but I was pleasantly surprised by the cherry filling inside the marshmallow layer. It really helped balance the sweetness of the dark chocolate glaze (not everything dark is bitter haha this one was definitely sweet).

Honestly, I would’ve gone for a classic eggs benedict like I usually do, but wanted to try something different this time. Might stick to the classic next round!

And finally the Latte was solid!

Ah yes one more thing: the added sourdough😍The flavor and texture were spot on, and it was served warm, fresh out of the oven - so fragrant and comforting. And the best part? It was only 20k 🫣 such a nice surprise!

Of course, this is just my personal taste, and I’ll definitely be back, still so many things I want to try. Keep...

WKND: A Stylish Escape with Inconsistent Cuisine

WKND, nestled in Thao Dien, boasts a charming atmosphere and impeccable service. The garden setting provides a tranquil escape, perfect for a relaxed brunch or evening out. However, while the hospitality shines, the culinary execution falters in its consistency.

Dishes like the grilled octopus and ribs, which should be showcases of skillful preparation, fell short. The octopus, a textural delight when cooked properly, emerged rubbery and overdone, a betrayal of its potential. Similarly, the ribs lacked the tenderness expected, a hallmark of slow-cooking or braising techniques.

The deconstruction of the salmon rosti proved a curious misstep. While creativity is encouraged, the dish deviated significantly from the classic Swiss potato pancake. Essentially, it became an eggs Benedict with a base of shredded potato instead of the signature toasted bread. This disconnect between expectation and execution was a disappointment.

Thankfully, the desserts offered a reprieve. Here, flavors and textures seemed to find better harmony, providing a satisfying conclusion to the meal.

In conclusion, WKND presents a compelling environment – a haven of style and service. However, the unevenness in the savory dishes detracts from the overall experience. For diners seeking a truly great mouth-watering brunch, the kitchen requires a touch more finesse in its execution to elevate the cuisine to match...

I have been here several times, on weekdays as well as weekends. Their food is one of the best brunch in town, very close to NYC brunches that I had back in the day, but bigger portion and decent prices. Jay, the owner, is humble and polite to all customers. However, his manager fails to perform the same. She gets a little bit not very welcoming when the house is crowded. I did not make a reservation on this recent visit, however I did ask to sit at the kitchen counter when I first walked in (I was then arranged a lower table, which is uncomfortable because the table is low, and located right next to the bathroom, at the same time was explained that all kitchen counter seatings were reserved in advance). As I was waiting for my food, I saw a guy that sat at the kitchen counter was leaving, I asked to move to his seating. However I was turned down and told its also reserved. As I was eating and observing the operations, there were people coming in without reservation, but later on were invited to sit at the kitchen counter. Bar counter seatings were also empty. I was kinda expecting the manager would try her best to accommodate my seating request when I asked for it twice. I could have gave my table (of 2) for a single seat at the bar counter and the house can welcome 2 guests in replacement. The lower seats were def not preferred since the couple sitting next to me were also complaining how low the table was.

I recently visited this restaurant and opted for the Salmon Benedict while seated at the bar. The eggs were well-prepared, and I was intrigued by the unique choice of a hashbrown patty instead of the traditional biscuit or muffin. However, I was disappointed with the salmon's quality as it tasted off. Observing the kitchen afterward making other salmon Benedict’s, I noticed that a bin of salmon was repeatedly left out on the counter for extended periods under the heat lamps between making each dish, which leads to quality degradation due to fluctuating hot and cold temperatures going back in the fridge. It also raised my concerns about food safety. When it comes to salmon they should either immediately always put the salmon back or keep it in the walk in and use tongs to get them fresh for each dish. For dessert, I tried the fruit cake candies and a dark chocolate marshmallow cookie. While the cookie was a 3/5 (better than store bought but not better than fresh baked or homemade), I believe sourcing from nearby specialty cookie shops a block away would greatly enhance your desert offerings instead of your own cookies. On a positive note, the fruit cake candies were a delightful surprise, easily in the top fruit cake candies I’ve ever had. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for a unique dessert option that’s a bit more historic (fruit cake was the original dessert of “kings” before modern times).
