I'm not a vegetarian per se, and don't claim to know vegetarian food intimately, but do enjoy vegetarian meals. One of the things I noticed and really liked here at Khan Ly is every item of the buffet had its own unique flavor. At some places I've eaten there's been a tendency for several dishes to use the same combination of spices or flavor bases, but not here. Today's soup for example had a sweet-sour broth not found in anything else on my plate. One of the foods reminded me a little of French toast, crispy with a taste of cinnamon. I found all of them enjoyable and you get to pick what you want, and how much. They give you a plate of rice and you choose what goes on top of the rice.
After reading a number of other reviews on this restaurant it seems the top complaint is overcharging tourists. I had quite a bit of food on my plate, as you can from the photos, and they charged me $50k which is slightly over USD2.00. The locals seem to be paying less, and I believe the students receive some type of discount too. However, you can really fill up or even overfill a plate so I cam see there being some leeway with pricing.
Also, having lived outside the USA for many years I've come to realize that tourists help to create overcharging. Time and time again I've seen tourists insist on overpaying for meals and services, and overtipping or tipping when it isn't customary, often because they feel guilty for paying so little.
Long story short, while I will lower a review score for overpriced food or gouging, I don't usually lower a review if I believe the value is appropriate. Considering the amount of food, variety of choices, and quality, the price was...
Read moreI’m not quite sure how other people have experience here but my family personally decided never come back here. Why? We read reviews before we came. We understood this is a buffet chay/vegetarian buffet but we got charge over price. A plate like everyone cost 60k+. Is that because we look touristy? What a shame! The price list was fading so I’m not sure exactly how much per course. The lady show the menu and that was it! The first time I came there and no clue that we were trapped. The lady just look at our plate when we asked for a bill and said 130k for both. By the way, we did not refill. Then she came to the others and said 80k for both plates. My husband used to take his friend there and she charged 30k for a plate. That’s why he took his family here to recommend. What is going on here? If you charge by cost per dish, please put the price tag and make sure the information is clear. Don’t just let your customers settle and get a plate full of price by you and then overcharge them. That’s not fair and shady as hell! By the way, you re not the only vegetarian...
