The Laguna Torre Trek in El Chalten offers a remarkable experience that rivals the famous Torres del Paine in Chile. What sets it apart is that it can be done as a day trip, and best of all, it's free! Here are some important details to know before embarking on the Laguna Torre hike:

The trail begins from the center of El Chalten and passes several viewpoint areas before leading to Laguna Torre itself. It's important to note that the hike takes you to Laguna Torre (the lake) rather than the Cerro Torre peak (the mountain). However, you will still enjoy breathtaking views of Cerro Torre throughout the trail and at the lake.

Upon reaching Laguna Torre, you can take a moment to relax and soak in the stunning scenery of the surrounding mountains, lake, and glaciers. The trail offers a glimpse of three prominent needle-like mountains: Cerro Torre on the left, Torre Egger in the middle, and Aguja Standhardt on the right.

For those seeking a bit more adventure, you have the option to continue to the Mirador Maestri, an additional viewpoint area. This route follows alongside the moraine wall, providing elevated views of the area.

Once you have enjoyed the lake and its breathtaking surroundings, it's time to retrace your steps back to El Chalten, taking in the beautiful scenery once again.

One of the great advantages of El Chalten is that all major hiking trails have conveniently located trailheads right in town or nearby. The Laguna Torre trailhead is centrally located, making it easily accessible. You can use the GPS coordinates 49°19’52.1″S 72°53’42.8″W or find the intersection of Llao Llao / Los Huemules and Los Charitos streets.

Given the limited cell reception in El Chalten, it's advisable to download offline maps to navigate through town and along the trail.

In summary, the Laguna Torre Trek in El Chalten is an incredible adventure that offers stunning views and unforgettable experiences. With its convenient access, mesmerizing landscapes, and the opportunity to see the iconic Cerro Torre, it is a must-do hike for nature enthusiasts...

Absolutely spectacular hike, I’ve heard that they now charge 45,000 pesos to do local hikes but if you arrive early like I did it’s still free…I started at 5:30am and was the only person doing the hike at that time, highly recommend it if you don’t like annoying tourists everywhere as you’re trying to enjoy the amazing views of Cerro Torre…trail is well marked with sign posts at every kilometer, and I would rate it medium only because of the length (18km total out and back) since the terrain is fairly easy…don’t skip this one when visiting El Chalten,...
